Students continued notes on Matter as we compared Elements and Compounds and discussed ways to separate mixtures. They will have a Matter Voc. Test on Wednesday and Chapter Test on the same material on Thursday.
Scientific Method
Students finished the final slide on the Scientific Method PowerPoint notes. Then we went over a practice WS on the Scientific Method identifying the independent and dependent variables and the control/experimental groups. We then completed in class the "Scientific Method in Action" WS (20 pts) and the 6.6-1 WS (28 pts). There will be a Scientific Method Quiz on Wednesday and Chapter Test on the Scientific Method and Measurements on Thursday. They will also need to dress for a lab on Friday.
Matter-Properties & Changes
24th (Tuesday)
Students took notes from the PPT on States of Matter, the Kinetic theory and how chemists describe the states of matter.
25th (Wednesday)
Students took notes and discussed the changes in the states of matter, the uses of energy to cause phase changes and the names of the various phase changes. We also discussed the two types of properties and changes w/examples. Finally we ended class talking about the Law of Conservation of mass and parts of a chemical equation.
26th (Thursday)
We began the Law of Conservation of Mass WS with examples. They completed the Conservation of Mass WS (50 pts) in class. We then continued to discuss the differences in mixtures and compounds and types of mixtures.
SI Lab/Scientific Method
25th (Wednesday)
Students completed Day 2 of the SI (Metric System) Lab where we measured distances in cm, m, dm, and hm using a meter stick. We also used the triple beam balance to measure various masses in SI. We finished up w/the thermometer and measured the temperature of different items. Students were assigned the Scientific Method Review Questions from Ch. 3 of the online textbook to prepare for class on Thursday. Each class has been given the website; username and password for each class to access the Physical Science textbook and complete the work on their phones or home computers.

26th (Thursday)
Students were given the first 30 min. to complete the Review Questions (60 pts) from the Physical Science textbook. They were encouraged and emphasized to begin using the online textbooks to complete their homework. Afterwards, we began the Scientific Method notes from the PPT on the projector.
Matter and Properties
Students took notes from Matter, Properties and Change. We distinguished between physical and chemical properties and intensive/extensive properties.. Notes were taken and discussed from the PowerPoint.
SI Lab
Students conducted Lab Experiments in mass, distance, and volume. Students learned how to measure the meniscus of liquids, measure the volume of regular solids using l x w x h, and find volume w/displacement. (50 pts) We will continue lab tomorrow finding mass and temperature.
Atoms
Students turned in the Atoms Voc (66 pts) and began the Atoms RQ. (60 pts)
Measurements
Students completed the Length Lab (59 pts). Then, we went over the correct procedures and SI Lab for Monday & Tuesday of next week.
Significant Digits, Data Analysis
We went over the mistakes from the Significant Digits WS's (Add, subtract, multiply and Divide) and reviewed the Ch. Assessment and will have the Data Analysis Test on tomorrow.
Length Lab
Students performed measurements in SI for length, volume, and mass on a Length Lab WS (80pts). We will have another SI lab tomorrow, so dress appropriately.
