Students finished the last episode of "The Day After". They were assigned a 80pt essay on the items learned and witnessed in "The Day After" that covered radiation and radioactivity. They were also checked for the 3rd time to make sure they have the 2nd Sem. Exam Review Guides (2 pages) They were told to have a pencil, their textbook and their review guides for the Sem. Exam.
The Mole
We began class working 3 problems working with molecular formulas. We determined how to use empirical formulas to produce molecular formulas. Then, students received "The Mole" chapter test and were able to use their books. All classes have received their 2nd Sem. Exam Rev. Guides.
The Day After
We are almost finished with "The Day After" which shows the effects of radioactivity and radiation on humans and the environment. Students have received their 2nd Sem. Exam Review Guides.
Empirical Formulas
Students began the Empirical Formulas WS and were assigned it for homework after not finishing it in class. They were also told to read and be able to explain the term, "molecular formula" and how to determine a molecular formula.
The Day After
Students continued watching "The Day After" to view and question the effects of radiation and radioactivity.
Empirical Formulas
Students learned how to determine empirical formulas from % composition or masses given. Three problems were worked on the board w/one for homework after reviewing p. 331.
The Day After
Students were introduced to the concept of Radioactivity. We began the movie, "The Day After" to view the effects of radiation on life. The students were told to pay particular attention to characters and the progression throughout the movie and their descriptions of radiation.
The Mole
Wednesday; May 10, 2017
Students continued to finish the Mass of Compounds to particles WS and completed the other conversion of mole-particle-mass .
Thursday; May 11, 2017
Students took notes from the PowerPoint on How to determine Percent Composition by Mass of a compound. We worked three problems on the board and then they began the % Composition WS. 3rd Period did not begin the WS due to the Awards Ceremony.
Friday; May 12, 2017
Students continued and finished the % Composition by Mass WS and began to finish the PPT on Determining % composition when given a mass instead of a percent to determine empirical and molecular formulas.
Thermal Energy
Wednesday; May 10, 2017
Students took notes and discussed the three methods of heat transfer and the differences in conductors and insulators as well as how animals use heat to keep warm or cool.
Thursday; May 11, 2017
We continued to finish the PPT presentation on Thermal Energy. We discussed the three major types of heating systems, heating systems and how they differ, and the major stages of an internal combustion engine. They were told to outline the last section of the chapter discussing how humans use heat with their bodies.
Friday; May 12, 2017
Students took the Thermal Energy Vocabulary Test and were allowed 10 min. to use their notes during the test. Then, they took the Open Note Thermal Energy Ch. Test. They were allowed to pick up their 2nd Sem. Exam Review Guides if they chose to.
Mole-Mole, Mole-Mass, Mole of Compounds to Mass
Students continued to work on conversions involving Mole/Mole Ratio's and Mass to Moles of elements and compounds.
