Students completed the Heat Lost/Heat Gained WS (50 pts) in class. We will continue and finish the Notes from the Thermal Energy PPT tomorrow in preparation for a Voc. Test on Thursday and Chapter Test on Friday.
Mole
Students completed the Mole-Mass of Compounds WS and then we began the notes on Moles of elements in compounds and conversions there. We also began to compare to convert from moles of a compound to particles of a compound.
Thermal Energy
Students completed the Heat Lost/Heat Gained WS in class. Then, we discussed the three methods of heat transfer and differences in conductors and insulators from the Thermal Energy PPT.
Atoms to mass in a compound
Today students worked on a worksheet that changed the mass of an element to the number of atoms/particles in an element (30 points). Afterwards they worked on a worksheet changing molecules/formula units to a mass (30 points). They will finish the second worksheet on Monday in class.
Heat Lost/Heat Gained
Today, we took notes from the powerpoint on Specific heat and calculating Heat lost/Heat Gained by objects. We used the formula, Q=mc(delta)t to calculate the heat lost/gained by an object on a 30 pts worksheet.
Thermal Energy
Students learned how to explain the transfer of thermal energy in objects and the scales to measure the heat in an object. We took notes on thermal energy using the PPT.
Mass-Mole-Particles (vice versa)
Students worked on problems converting masses of compounds to moles of compounds to particles/atoms of a compound in a worksheet (and vice versa). The worksheet (50 pts) was taken up at the end of class. We will finish the worksheet in class tomorrow.
Thermal Energy RQ
Students used the book to complete the Thermal Energy Review Questions (60 pts) in class.
Molar Mass
Students learned how to convert from mass of a compound to number of particles and vice versa. Then they were given a Mass to Moles WS (30 pts) to complete for homework. We worked 3 practice problems on the board prior to the WS.
Molar Mass
Students learned to calculate molar mass of elements and compounds. They also were taught how to convert from atoms of an element to moles of a compound and vice versa. They completed a "molar mass" WS for homework.
