Students completed the "Chemical Reactions" Crossword Puzzle (34 pts), then began the "Chemical Reactions" Chapter Review (50 pts), and Chemical Reactions Voc. Test (34 pts). They will have the "Chemical Reactions" Chapter Test (100 pts) on tomorrow.
Nomenclature of Ionic Compounds
3rd - Students were given a list of the top polyatomic ions, their symbol, and charges to learn and memorize. They will have a test on them next week. Also, they took notes from the Ionic Compounds PPT on how to name and write Ionic Formulas with Polyatomic Ions. They began and completed a worksheet "Naming Compounds Containing Polyatomic Ions" (50 pts).
7th - We watched a podcast on Naming and Writing Formulas with Polyvalent (transition) elements. Then we completed a worksheet on "Naming Ionic Compounds with Polyvalent Compounds" (50 pts) and "Writing Compounds with Polyvalent Elements" (50 pts).
Chemical Reactions
Students completed a "Balancing Chemical Reactions" WS (30 pts), a "Balance" WS (30 pts), and a Word Scramble (32 pts). They will have a Chemical Reactions Voc. Test on Monday and "Chemical Reactions Chapter Test on Tuesday of next week.
Polyvalent Names and Formulas
3rd - Students watched a YouTube podcast on naming ionic compounds with polyvalent ions. (Transition Metals). We worked through several examples of writing Polyvalent Formulas and then naming compounds with transition elements. Class ended with students getting a worksheet on "Naming Ionic Formulas with Polyvalent Ions" and "Writing Chemical Formulas with Polyvalent Ions" (50 pts each)
7th - Students went over the notes on naming Ionic Formulas and answered a "Naming Ionic Formulas" WS (50 pts), then we observed a YouTube podcast on Writing Ionic Formulas. Then after working through several examples, students got a "Bonding & Chemical Formulas" Ws (100 pts) and Writing Ionic Formulas (50 pts)
Balancing Equations
Students watched two YouTube podcasts on balancing chemical equations. Then we balanced 5 equations on the board after reviewing types of chemical reactions. Students finally were given a "Identifying and Balancing Chemical Equations" WS (48 pts) for homework.
Chemistry
We continued the PowerPoint on the Ionic Compounds.
Types of Chemical Reactions
Today we covered Aims 14 (Synthesis Reactions) and Aims 15 (Decomposition Reactions), how to recognize and diagnose the reactants and products of the reactants.
Ionic Compound Properties
Students continued to view the PowerPoint and discuss the properties of ionic compounds. We also began to discuss how to determine dissociation in ionic compounds.
Types of Chemical Reactions
Students worked from the Chemistry Workbook 3 on determining types of Chemical Reactions. They completed Aims 14 (36 pts), Aim 15 (50 pts) and began Aim 16 (45 pts). All work was turned in at the end of the period.
Ionic Compounds
Today, we continued the powerpoint in discussing properties of Ionic Compounds. We specifically covered properties of ionic compounds and how they for crystal lattices.
