December 18 Announcements

Book Olympiad practice this week is canceled.  Practice will resume January 7th. READ READ READ!

FCCLA will collect socks for the homeless on our sock tree in the cafeteria through tomorrow.  Donations will benefit Be a Blessing Birmingham, serving the homeless community in Birmingham. Please donate thick, warm socks for men and women – please no slipper socks or novelty socks.  Thank you!

7th Grade Washington DC Students:  4th payment was due Monday, December 16th. Please bring to Mrs. Kennedy in D-6 ASAP!

There is a list of students who have purchased a yearbook in the cafeteria.  Please check the list.  If you would like a yearbook and do not see your name on the list, bring cash or check payable to OMMS to Mrs. Thomas (C-5) or Mrs. Foreman (B-2) by Friday January 24th. They are $40 each.

Please check the lost and found for items that may belong to you.  All items will be donated on at 3pm on tomorrow.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:  Due to the response we have had from the first few What Do You Need Wednesday sales, the PTO would like to start hosting these sales on a weekly basis after the holidays, starting Jan 8 through April 29.  In order to do that, we need some volunteers each week to come and help with the sales.  Please look at your calendar and consider signing up to help.  Please note that we can only have the sales each week if we are able to get some volunteers – so check your schedule and see if there might be at least one shirt that you could come out and help.https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0C49AFAC2BA0FD0-what

OMMS PTO is looking for businesses to sponsor our school!  For $250, your company logo will be featured on the OMMS Life Facebook page (which has over 900 followers!) all year long and your company information will be distributed in a school-wide list serve email.  Our partnership allows for extremely targeted advertising to almost 1,100 students and their families!  Please turn in the attached form and your donation to the front office to show your support of OMMS students and teachers!

Monday, Dec. 16 – Merry Movie Monday (look like a character from a holiday movie)

Tuesday, Dec. 17 – Trip to the North Pole Tuesday

                   *8th Grade dress as Santas

                    *7th Grade dress as Reindeer

                    *6th Grade dress as Elves

Wednesday, Dec. 18 – Wacky Tacky Wednesday (Tacky Christmas)

Thursday, Dec. 19 – Thermal Thursday (PJs and Sweats)

The JLDC field trip to the BJCC is tomorrow.  Students will report to Mrs. Thomas, Bishop and Whitehead’s classes when they arrive at school, and no later than 7:30.

Anyone who wants to try out for the OMMS Track and Field team needs to see Coach Dillard in the gym to sign up. Try-outs are February 5th-6th, 2020. 

Good luck to our basketball teams tonight as they play Clay.  Boys at home and girls at Clay.

December 6 Announcements

This week’s Book Olympiad practice is canceled. Our first practice will be Tuesday 12/10 from 3-4 pm in Mrs. Hutchings room C4. Keep reading! 

FCCLA will collect socks for the homeless on our sock tree in the cafeteria through Thursday, December 19.  Donations will benefit Be a Blessing Birmingham, serving the homeless community in Birmingham. Please donate thick, warm socks for men and women – please no slipper socks or novelty socks.  Thank you!

7th Grade Washington DC Students:  Stop by and see Mrs. Kennedy (D-6) for rooming assignments by December 16th.  3rd payment was due November 15th; 4th payment is due December 16th.  Visit the OMMS DC Blog for updates and information. https://podcasts.shelbyed.k12.al.us/omms-dctrip/

The Oak Mountain Middle School Athletic Boosters is once again hosting a Breakfast with Santa.  The event will take place on Saturday, 12/7 from 8-11:30am at OMMS.  It will feature a waffle house breakfast and photos with Santa in his sleigh.  Forms to order tickets are available in the front office, on the parent e-news or you may purchase Saturday morning.  Breakfast is $5 per person or $20 per household.  Photos are $10.  They will be a digital photo from a professional photographer that can be downloaded and used however you wish.  

The Christmas Gala is Friday, 12/6 from 7-10pm.  Gala Tickets and fun tickets will be sold at lunch today and tomorrow.  Gala ticket – $8, Fun Tickets (these will be used for all activities and food) – $1 each.  Pre-ordered tickets were delivered to students yesterday.  FOOD and ACTIVITIES: Sleigh Photos with Friends 5 tickets, Chick-Fil-A nuggets 3 tickets, Pepperoni or Cheese Pizza or Cheesy Bread 2 tickets, Krispy Kreme donuts 2 tickets, Hot Cocoa station 2 tickets, Cake Walk 1 ticket, sELFie Station 1 ticket, and the concession stand will be open 1-3tickets for various beverages and candy.   Fun Tickets will also be sold at the gala for $1.   Gala admission tickets sold at the door will be $10. 

Gala dress should be dressy attire, no jeans or shorts.  Prizes given for best dressed or tacky sweaters.  SGA lead out begins at 8:00pm.  Parents are welcome to attend lead out and a $5 donation is requested to benefit OMMS Athletics.

NJHS Members not participating in SGA lead out rehearsal today will have a meeting with Mrs. Gingras on B-hall West.  Attendance is MANDATORY if you are not participating in SGA lead out.  Students who are unable to attend the meeting will need to read the NJHS blog very closely to make sure you will be fulfilling all the requirements to go shopping on Monday.  NJHS members who come to school on Monday, ill prepared will not be permitted to attend the shopping trip.

OMMS PTO is looking for businesses to sponsor our school!  For $250, your company logo will be featured on the OMMS Life Facebook page (which has over 900 followers!) all year long and your company information will be distributed in a school-wide list serve email.  Our partnership allows for extremely targeted advertising to almost 1,100 students and their families!  Please turn in the attached form and your donation to the front office to show your support of OMMS students and teachers!

Congratulations to our 7th grade girls’ basketball team in their 36-9 win over Bumpus.  Aaliyah T led the way with 11pts, Ella V 8pts, Cami W 7pts, Ava T 4, Elizabeth T and Maliyah G with 2 each.  8th grade girls won over Bumpus 37-16.  Mary R led with 8 points.
