September 30th Announcements

Yearbooks! The 2023 OMMS yearbooks are ready to purchase! 6th Grade Students and Parents/Guardians:  Next week the Counseling Department is hosting Sandra Dozier, with BridgeWays, to present lessons on the relationship between interests/personalities and future career options.  These lessons will take place during Social Studies:  Wednesday, October 5th- Mrs. Higginbotham’s Classes; Thursday, October 6th- Mr. Wood’s Classes; Friday, October 7th- Ms. Zimmer’s Classes

Please encourage students to check the lost and found in the gym and the front office for any missing items.  Items collected will be donated soon.

Any 7th & 8th grade student interested in attending the Washington DC trip from Thursday, February 16 – Monday, February 20, 2023.  Read carefully the following details on 2023 OMMS Washington DC Trip Info!  Deadline to register is Monday, October 3rd. Email Mrs. Kennedy at jkennedy@shelbyed.org with any questions.  Normally, this is a 7th grade trip.  We are offering it to 7th & 8th grade students this year only (Feb 2023) due to not going on the trip last year.  Next year (Feb 2024), we will only offer it to 7th grade students.

Attention 8th graders: Our High Flight field trip is coming up!  The entire 8th grade will attend this instructional field trip. Read the attached letter for details about time, place, activities, and fee via the parent listserv or OMMS website. The deadline for the fee is Friday 9/30.

Phase 1 Community Service club is now accepting applications for all 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. This group meets 1-2 Thursdays per month and works with organizations like Oak Mountain Missions, Backpack Buddies, and local nursing homes to make our community better! Birmingham-Southern Men’s Basketball team is offering free admission to a home game for the entire family! Any student who reads 5 books by Friday, Oct. 28th and turns in their form will receive free admission to a home game of their choice! Come get a flyer from the library or print the flyer, then complete the challenge, and turn it in to the library (Mrs. Howton or Mrs. McCaleb) by Friday, Oct. 28th!

Good luck to our volleyball teams in their Metro tournament this weekend.  7th grade @ Homewood; 8th grade at Chelsea.

Seventh and Eighth grade boys basketball are selling shirts to promote their first home game on October 25th against Briarwood Christian Lions!  Our theme will be RED OUT! All spectators are encouraged to “RED Out” the gym with as many red shirts as possible. Boys interested in trying out for the OMMS Baseball Team need to complete the Google Form link below.  Tryouts will be October 20-23 at Oak Mountain High School. All required documents must be completed in DragonFly by October 14th to be eligible to tryout.  https://forms.gle/AiXQ4vdkxzv3pMwe8
