January 13th Announcements

Students that ride bus 13-41 will ride bus 09-63 today at dismissal.

Schools and offices are closed on Monday, January 16th in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday.

Attention Parents/Guardians:  The OMMS counseling department is hosting a guest speaker for all grade levels in the month of January concerning the topic of bullying and social media safety.  The presentation schedule is as follows:

Friday, January 13th: 7th grade during ELA classes

Thursday, January 19th: 8th grade during ELA classes

Cheer clinic and tryouts for 2023-2024 will be held on February 27-March 3 from 3-5:30pm in the OMMS gym.  Tryout Paperwork, DragonFly requirements, and the payment of $40 is due Friday, February 17th.  The payment of $40 can be made on MySchoolBucks beginning Tuesday, January 17th.  The DragonFly requirements will be submitted as of the current year, 2022-2023, and will be transferred when the new year is created. 

Two spots have become available for the 7th grade DC trip.  First come, first serve, please see Mrs. Kennedy if interested.  7th grade students that are attending the Washington DC trip should see Mrs. Kennedy in D-6 for roommate requests.

Community Information:

The OM Color Run is happening on Saturday, March 11th at Oak Mountain State Park. All proceeds are given to the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB.  Participants can visit the click here to register. Online registration is open now until March 9th. 7th Grade Parents/Guardians:  In order to fulfill the state required guidance topic concerning “Erin’s Law”, the counselors will be presenting a lesson on body safety on Wednesday, December 14th during social studies classes. This lesson includes how to seek help in unsafe situations as well as safe social media/Internet use. 

SGA will meet tomorrow morning at 7:20am.

The SGA is hosting a Holiday Spirit Week to celebrate the season THIS Week, December 12-16.  Everyone is encouraged to dress up on the following days:

Wacky Tacky Wednesday 12-14 – go all out with your tackiest holiday wear

Glitz & Glam Thursday 12/15 – fancy holiday outfits; 6th grade 1920’s Day

Flannel Friday 12/16– cozy PJs

We would appreciate donations of Kleenex to the front office for teacher classrooms.

6th and 7th grade girls: There will be an interest meeting for volleyball tryouts during Eagle Hour on Tuesday 12/13. Please report to your 7th period teacher first and then report to room A21 AFTER morning announcements. This meeting will only last 10 minutes. You will still be responsible for iReady minutes after the meeting.

Christmas Gala FAQs and Pick Up Information

Christmas Gala FAQs:

  1. If your student was at school today, they should have received their pre-purchased entry and fun tickets in their advisory period. If they were not able to pick those tickets up at school they will be available at the registration table outside the cafeteria. 
  2. Event begins at 7pm. 
  3. Enter at the front of the building through the main school entrance.
  4. Entry tickets will be available for purchase at the front door.  
  5. Fun tickets will be available for purchase in the cafeteria. 
  6. All ticket purchases are cash only at the event.
  7. Food & Fun ticket prices:

OMMS Christmas Gala Online Ticket Deadline Today at 3pm

The deadline for online ticket purchases is today at 3pm.

Join us on Friday, December 9th for the Christmas Gala hosted by the OMMS Athletic Boosters Club! Entry tickets are $8 pre-sale and $12 at the door. Fun tickets are 5 for $5 and can be used for food, games, cake walk, and to cast votes in the 2nd Annual Coaches’ Ugly Sweater Contest! All tickets can be purchased through MySchoolBucks.

OMMS Winter choir concert is tonight at Metropolitan Church of God at 7pm.

Coding Club’s last meeting before the holiday break will be tomorrow, December 7th, from 3 to 4:30pm.

SGA will meet tomorrow morning before school.
