December 9 Announcements

Academic Partners will have the next “What Do You Need Wednesday Sale” next Wednesday, Dec 11 during lunch – so bring in your money and restock up on any items you need.It’s that time again!  Time for the December “What Do You Need Wednesday Sale” happening next Wednesday, Dec 11 during lunch.  Please see attached listing for items that will be for sale.  Remind your kids to bring their money and avoid that trip to Walmart while supporting our school.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:  Due to the response we have had from the first few What Do You Need Wednesday sales, the PTO would like to start hosting these sales on a weekly basis after the holidays, starting Jan 8 through April 29.  In order to do that, we need some volunteers each week to come and help with the sales.  Please look at your calendar and consider signing up to help.  Please note that we can only have the sales each week if we are able to get some volunteers – so check your schedule and see if there might be at least one shirt that you could come out and help.https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0C49AFAC2BA0FD0-what

The peer mediators will have a bake sale in D-9 (Ms. Turpen’s room) this week.  Everything is $1.  8th grade will be on Tuesday, 6th grade on Wednesday and 7th grade on Thursday and anything left over will be sold on Friday.

The JLDC field trip to the BJCC is tomorrow.  Students will report to Mrs. Thomas, Bishop and Whitehead’s classes when they arrive at school, and no later than 7:30.

Anyone who wants to try out for the OMMS Track and Field team needs to see Coach Dillard in the gym to sign up. Try-outs are February 5th-6th, 2020. 

Good luck to our basketball teams tonight as they play Clay.  Boys at home and girls at Clay.

The Oak Mountain Middle School Athletic Boosters is once again hosting a Breakfast with Santa.  The event will take place on Saturday, 12/7 from 8-11:30am at OMMS.  It will feature a waffle house breakfast and photos with Santa in his sleigh.  Forms to order tickets are available in the front office, on the parent e-news or you may purchase Saturday morning.  Breakfast is $5 per person or $20 per household.  Photos are $10.  They will be a digital photo from a professional photographer that can be downloaded and used however you wish.  

The Christmas Gala is Friday, 12/6 from 7-10pm.  Gala Tickets and fun tickets will be sold at lunch today and tomorrow.  Gala ticket – $8, Fun Tickets (these will be used for all activities and food) – $1 each.  Pre-ordered tickets were delivered to students yesterday.  FOOD and ACTIVITIES: Sleigh Photos with Friends 5 tickets, Chick-Fil-A nuggets 3 tickets, Pepperoni or Cheese Pizza or Cheesy Bread 2 tickets, Krispy Kreme donuts 2 tickets, Hot Cocoa station 2 tickets, Cake Walk 1 ticket, sELFie Station 1 ticket, and the concession stand will be open 1-3tickets for various beverages and candy.   Fun Tickets will also be sold at the gala for $1.   Gala admission tickets sold at the door will be $10. 

Gala dress should be dressy attire, no jeans or shorts.  Prizes given for best dressed or tacky sweaters.  SGA lead out begins at 8:00pm.  Parents are welcome to attend lead out and a $5 donation is requested to benefit OMMS Athletics.

NJHS Members not participating in SGA lead out rehearsal today will have a meeting with Mrs. Gingras on B-hall West.  Attendance is MANDATORY if you are not participating in SGA lead out.  Students who are unable to attend the meeting will need to read the NJHS blog very closely to make sure you will be fulfilling all the requirements to go shopping on Monday.  NJHS members who come to school on Monday, ill prepared will not be permitted to attend the shopping trip.

Congratulations to our 7th grade girls’ basketball team in their 36-9 win over Bumpus.  Aaliyah T led the way with 11pts, Ella V 8pts, Cami W 7pts, Ava T 4, Elizabeth T and Maliyah G with 2 each.  8th grade girls won over Bumpus 37-16.  Mary R led with 8 points.

November 21 Announcements

There are a few spots left on the Washington DC trip!  Any 7th grader interested in going on the trip, email Mrs. Kennedy as soon as possible at jkennedy@shelbyed.org  

Keep bringing in your Toys for Tots donations!  Donations accepted through tomorrow! 

Students may bring $2.00 tomorrow morning to participate in a comfy day to benefit Toys for Tots.  Sweatpants only, no leggings, no athletic shorts, no athletic wear, only sweatpants!  Money will be turned in to your 1st period teacher.  Only students with their money will be allowed to wear sweatpants.  Normal dress code rules apply to those that do not bring money in with them to 1st period.

Important reminders for NJHS members: At least three service hours are due to Mrs. Gingras by Friday, November 22nd. No hours? No shopping! Approximately 25 students have ZERO hours on file!!  The TFT Shopping Permission Slip is due to your assigned sponsor by Friday, November 22nd. If you have lost yours, go to the NJHS blog — another one is linked there. No permission slip by this Friday? No shopping!

OMMS PTO is looking for businesses to sponsor our school!  For $250, your company logo will be featured on the OMMS Life Facebook page (which has over 900 followers!) all year long and your company information will be distributed in a school-wide list serve email.  Our partnership allows for extremely targeted advertising to almost 1,100 students and their families!  Please turn in the attached form and your donation to the front office to show your support of OMMS students and teachers!

The Christmas Gala is Friday, 12/6 from 7-10pm.  A gala ticket package which includes your gala ticket and 10 fun tickets is now available at gofan.co!  Beat the rush and order them now.  Tickets will be for sale at school on 12/5 and 12/6 during lunch and fun tickets will be available at the gala.  Gala ticket – $8, Fun Tickets (these will be used for all activities and food) – $1 each.  Preorders will be delivered to your student Thursday, 12/5 during advisory.  FOOD and ACTIVITIES: Sleigh Photos with Friends 5 tickets, Chick-Fil-A nuggets 3 tickets, Pepperoni or Cheese Pizza or Cheesy Bread 2 tickets, Krispy Kreme donuts 2 tickets, Hot Cocoa station 2 tickets, Cake Walk 1 ticket, sELFie Station 1 ticket, and the concession stand will be open 1-3tickets for various beverages and candy.  We are in need of volunteers to make the event a success!  Sign up at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0449ADAC2EA57-omms2

The Oak Mountain Middle School Athletic Boosters is once again hosting a Breakfast with Santa.  The event will take place on Saturday, 12/7 from 8-11:30am at OMMS.  It will feature a waffle house breakfast and photos with Santa in his sleigh.  Tickets are on sale now at  https://gofan.co/app/school/AL67656  or by bringing in the attached form to OMMS.  Breakfast is $5 per person or $20 per household.  Photos are $10.  There will be a digital photo from a professional photographer that can be downloaded and used however you wish.   Oakie the Eagle will be there as well!  

New this year – we are offering opportunities for vendors!  See attached form to sign up for a vendor table!  

Athletic Boosters –  SOAR decals are now available for $5.  Stop by the front office to get yours today!  

EAGLES SPORTS NEWS

Good luck to our girls’ basketball teams as they play at Liberty Park tonight!  Please excuse the 8th grade girls’ basketball team from advisory today.

Wrestlers should exit at the C-West doors to proceed to the sports building today. Gym and concession hall access is unavailable.

Alabama vs. Auburn faculty volleyball game to benefit Toys for Tots will be Wednesday!  Make plans to cheer on your favorite teachers and teams and add to our TFT goal!  Admission will be $2 per student and concessions will be available for purchasing.  Money for admission will be turned in tomorrow morning during 3rd period.

All debate team students should meet outside Mrs. Taylor’s room (B-14) immediately after checking in with their advisory teacher today.

6th grade has brought in $3379.58; [FYI: Bake Sale = $730.34]

7th grade has brought in $3276.05; [FYI: Bake Sale = $418.55] 

8th grade has brought in $5369.67. [FYI: Bake Sale = $426.80]  

We are at a grand total of $12,025.30. Only $7974.70 more to go!

Academic Partners (a division of the PTO) would like to invite you to their next meeting on Thursday, November 21 at 8:15 am when we will be working on plans for the Mardi Gras gala in early February.  We would love to have your input!!!

November 18 Announcements

Just one week left to meet our Toys for Tots goal!  Donations accepted through Friday!

Science club will meet on Tuesday, November 19th from 3:15-4:30.  Officers will be chosen at this meeting.

Phase 1 field trip to Oak Mountain Missions is today. Please wear your Phase 1 shirt and report to A-19 at 3:05. Pick up is at 5:30pm in the front of the school. 

Several jewelry items have been turned in to the Admin office from bus # 03-08.  If you have a ring or a bracelet, please see Mrs. Shoemaker.  You will need to describe the item in order to claim it.

JUNA will meet today until 4:30pm in A-17.

SGA will meet tomorrow morning at 7:20am in A-17.

NJHS meeting today during Advisory in the cafeteria.  Bring your backpack for dismissal.
