March 19 Announcements

Who’s ready for a BOOSTER Candy BOOST? This Wednesday, March 20th during advisory only, our Athletic Boosters will be selling candy for only $1 each! All of your sour favorites and few sweet treats too! Look out for our Booster Candy Carts rolling down the halls and get your candy before your favorites are gone! Don’t forget your money and share the news – it’s almost Spring Break, let’s start the fun a little early with a Booster Candy Boost!

Please remember when your student is absent you have three (3) school days from the time that he returns to send in a written excuse.  Please also remember to include your student’s full name, written legibly, in order for it to be correctly recorded to your student.  If a student needs to be absent and it is known in advance, please turn in a pre-planned absence form 10 days prior to the absence for approval.

Changes in bus transportation will only be approved for emergency purposes.  Please send in transportation notes, including the reason for the change, 24 hours in advance.

Please remember that students are not allowed to dismiss from cars in the morning until 7:00 or until an adult is present at the carpool line.

SGA 9th grade election results will be posted on the OMMS SGA blog at 3:15pm today.

Students it is very important that you not leave your belongings in the hallways. This includes, sports bags, electronic devices, backpacks, etc. Please use your lockers or get permission from a sports coach to leave your bags in their classroom. Items should never be left in the hallway.

Students who placed a yearbook on layaway are reminded your final payment of $20.00 is due by the end of April. Make payable to OMMS, and include student’s name on payment.

Join us at 6:30 PM Thursday March 21st at the North Shelby Library for a meeting about travel to Rome, Athens, and the Greek Isles. Please email questions to fparker@shelbyed.org.

Science Club’s next and last regular meeting of the year will be April 8 after school until 4:30. We will make tie-dye t-shirts and receive information for the white water rafting trip in May.

Debate team will meet on both today and Thursday this week.

Band/Choir Spring Trip Parent Meeting will be held this Thursday at 6:30pm in the cafeteria.

Current yearbook staff members will meet in Mrs. Acton’s room during advisory today.

SGA candidates need to remove campaign posters by the end of the day tomorrow.

SPORTS NEWS GO EAGLES!!!!

OMHS girls’ soccer game times tonight have been changed. Varsity will be playing at 5 PM and JV at 7 at Vestavia.

Tennis players need to check in for advisory and then dismiss to the gym to change for their match. Good luck to our tennis team in their match against Thompson.

Golfers will leave school tomorrow at 2:00 for our match at RTJ Oxmoor Valley.

Spring football practices will take place April 29-May 2, May 6-9, and May 13-14. Equipment fitting will take place April 24 during PE classes and all student-athletes participating in spring football are required to attend equipment fitting. The deadline to sign up for spring football is April 10 which includes completing all AHSAA requirements on DragonFly Max. There will be a mandatory for participation parent meeting on Thursday, April 11th at 5:30pm in the cafeteria.

Also, when completing DragonFly Max, do not click ‘My School Will Complete This Requirement’. If your student-athlete is in 6th grade, you will select 7th Grade Football and if your student-athlete is in 7th grade, you will select 8th Grade Football. Please remember when your student is absent you have three (3) school days from the time that he returns to send in a written excuse.  Please also remember to include your student’s full name, written legibly, in order for it to be correctly recorded to your student.  If a student needs to be absent and it is known in advance, please turn in a pre-planned absence form 10 days prior to the absence for approval.  To help facilitate getting absentee excuses in, we have added lock boxes on the 7th & 8th grade halls. These are secure boxes, close to the students’ core classes, making it easier than ever for the students to get their excuses turned in within the 3-day window. Please encourage your students to locate them and use them.

Parents of students who play sports at OMHS, this is the last call for images for our OMMS yearbook page featuring those students who participate at OMHS in sports/clubs.  If no photos are submitted for your child’s group they will not have photos in the book.  Thank you to those of you who have already submitted information.

March 15 Announcements

Monday, March 18th, all 7th & 8th grade students will be traveling to the high school to see all of the Oak Mountain show choirs perform. Students will be off OMMS campus at OMHS from approximately 8:00-11:30. Please plan ahead when scheduling appointments or for checking in/out.

On Saturday March 16th 2019, there will be an arts and crafts fair at the Indian Springs Village Town Hall located at 2635 Cahaba Valley Road from 9am to 6pm. Items to be sold at the arts and crafts fair will be homemade from Birmingham area artists. Five percent (5%) of the proceeds from the event will be donated to our Oak Mountain Schools to support our Chromebook project. Please mark your calendars for March 16th 2019 and come out to support our local artists and our Chromebook project. (flyer attached)

Registration for the 2019 Oak Mountain Color Run to be held on March 16th is open! Please help us reach our goal this year of raising $40,000 for the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center! This run was started 6 years ago by two high school students at Oak Mountain High School to honor their grandparents who were impacted by cancer. The race is still hosted by the Oak Mountain High School Student Government Association. Please sign up for the 5k or 1 Mile Fun Run today! Registration, information, and pictures can be found at www.oakmountaincolorrun.com   (flyer attached)

New for you!! There are brand new boxes for you to drop off your absentee excuses making it easier than ever for you to get your notes in on time. If you have a doctor’s note or a parent note explaining why you were absent, you can now drop it off in the new boxes on B, C, & D Halls. Look for the boxes with the bright green sign on the wall at the junction of B-hall and G-hall, C-Hall and G-Hall, and D-Hall and B-Hall (right across from Mrs. Kennedy’s room). Of course there is still a tray in the front office too. This should help you get your notes in on time. Try them out! Let us know what you think!

Eagle Ambassadors should come in this week to D-5 in the morning to make your poster for the soccer project.

For all students interested in going on the adventure to Rome, Athens, and the Greek Isles, please make plans to attend a meeting Thursday, March 21st @6:30 PM at the North Shelby Library. This trip is open to students, parents, family, and friends.

New for you!! There are brand new boxes for you to drop off your absentee excuses making it easier than ever for you to get your notes in on time. If you have a doctor’s note or a parent note explaining why you were absent, you can now drop it off in the new boxes on B, C, & D Halls. Look for the boxes with the bright green sign on the wall at the junction of B-hall and G-hall, C-Hall and G-Hall, and D-Hall and B-Hall (right across from Mrs. Kennedy’s room). Of course there is still a tray in the front office too. This should help you get your notes in on time. Try them out! Let us know what you think!

Students if you have old soccer gear – cleats, jerseys, socks, etc. please bring to school starting next week for a soccer drive for Cambodian children. There will be an area for collection on the lunchroom stage.

8th Grade Parents: If you did not receive an email from your team parent liaison and your student is interested in running cross country at OMHS next year, there is information available in the OMMS front office.

Spring football practices will take place April 29-May 2, May 6-9, and May 13-14. Equipment fitting will take place April 24 during PE classes and all student-athletes participating in spring football are required to attend equipment fitting. The deadline to sign up for spring football is April 10 which includes completing all AHSAA requirements on DragonFly Max. There will be a mandatory for participation parent meeting on Thursday, April 11th at 5:30pm in the cafeteria.

March 12 Announcements

Monday, March 18th, all 7th & 8th grade students will be traveling to the high school to see all of the Oak Mountain show choirs perform. Students will be off OMMS campus at OMHS from approximately 8:00-11:30. Please plan ahead when scheduling appointments or for checking in/out.

On Saturday March 16th 2019, there will be an arts and crafts fair at the Indian Springs Village Town Hall located at 2635 Cahaba Valley Road from 9am to 6pm. Items to be sold at the arts and crafts fair will be homemade from Birmingham area artists. Five percent (5%) of the proceeds from the event will be donated to our Oak Mountain Schools to support our Chromebook project. Please mark your calendars for March 16th 2019 and come out to support our local artists and our Chromebook project.

Registration for the 2019 Oak Mountain Color Run to be held on March 16th is open! Please help us reach our goal this year of raising $40,000 for the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center! This run was started 6 years ago by two high school students at Oak Mountain High School to honor their grandparents who were impacted by cancer. The race is still hosted by the Oak Mountain High School Student Government Association. Please sign up for the 5k or 1 Mile Fun Run today! Registration, information, and pictures can be found at www.oakmountaincolorrun.com
