January 10 Announcements

There is a list of students who have purchased a yearbook in the cafeteria.  Please check the list.  If you would like a yearbook and do not see your name on the list, bring cash or check payable to OMMS to Mrs. Thomas (C-5) or Mrs. Foreman (B-2) by Friday January 17th. They are $40 each.

Report cards will be given out today in Advisory for students to take home.

Any 7th or 8th-grade student who has had Mrs. Bishop’s class and is interested in participating in the OMMS cook-off, please see Mrs. Bishop for more information.

The next Book Olympiad practice is January 28. There is no practice this week or for the next two weeks. Read!

Sports physical day will be Wednesday, January 22nd at OMHS.  If you are interested in attending, pick up a physical form from Coach Tatum in PE.  The front page of the form should be filled out and signed by a parent.  Completed and signed forms and a $20 check made payable to OMMS should be turned in no later than Friday, January 17th to Coach Tatum only.  Your form and check will be your pass to board the bus.

Due to the response to our monthly school supply sales and requests from students to have it more frequently, Academic Partners is proud to announce that we are planning to host the “What Do You Need Wednesday Sale” weekly starting today through Spring Break.     Remind your kids to bring their money and avoid that trip to Walmart while supporting our school.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED  In order to host the sales weekly, we need some volunteers each week to come and help with the sales.  Please look at your calendar and consider signing up to help.  Please note that we can only have the sales each week if we are able to get some volunteers – so check your schedule and see if there might be at least one shift that you could come out and help.  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0C49AFAC2BA0FD0-what

Parents, when submitting in a doctor note from Urgent Care for Children on Cahaba Park Circle, please make sure that you include your students last name. The doctor’s note does not put them on there.  To insure that it is properly recorded to your child’s record, please write it on the excuse.

As we enter the 2nd semester and the flu season, please be aware that Shelby County Board of Education only allows 10 parent notes per school year.  This includes parent excused sick notes, parent unexcused notes, and principal permission days.  These are days not documented and covered by a doctor’s excuse. Any absence above 10 days not covered by a doctor’s excuse will be considered unexcused.  You can view the number of parent notes you have used in INow.  The complete policy can be found in the Shelby County Board of Education Code of Conduct.

OMMS PTO is looking for businesses to sponsor our school!  For $250, your company logo will be featured on the OMMS Life Facebook page (which has over 900 followers!) all year long and your company information will be distributed in a school-wide list serve email.  Our partnership allows for extremely targeted advertising to almost 1,100 students and their families!  Please turn in the attached form and your donation to the front office to show your support of OMMS students and teachers!Registration for the Oak Mountain Color Run is now open at www.oakmountaincolorrun.com. The date is March 7 at Oak Mountain State Park. All proceeds will benefit the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB. Help us pass the $100,000 mark raised by supporting and signing up this year!


Oak Mountain High School’s Fine Arts Department proudly presents Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” this weekend in the OMHS Performing Arts Center!  We hope you’ll join us for this classic tale at one of our four performances:

Congratulations to our 7th grade girls basketball team in their exciting 23-15 win over Berry last night.  Ella V led in scoring with 8pts, Ava T. 5 Alaliyah T. 4, Kathleen S. 3, Cami W. 2, Maggie N. 2.  Maggie N. came off the bench to score two free throws that sealed the deal for OMMS.  We went on a 8-0 run the 4th quarter.

Anyone who wants to try out for the OMMS Track and Field team needs to see Coach Dillard in the gym to sign up. Try-outs are February 5th-6th, 2020.

FCCLA will collect socks for the homeless on our sock tree in the cafeteria through tomorrow.  Donations will benefit Be a Blessing Birmingham, serving the homeless community in Birmingham. Please donate thick, warm socks for men and women – please no slipper socks or novelty socks.  Thank you!

There is a list of students who have purchased a yearbook in the cafeteria.  Please check the list.  If you would like a yearbook and do not see your name on the list, bring cash or check payable to OMMS to Mrs. Thomas (C-5) or Mrs. Foreman (B-2) by Friday January 24th. They are $40 each.

6th grade Social Studies students are reminded that you need to be dressed in your finest 1920’s costume tomorrow.  Hats will be allowed; girls should be mindful of skirt length and to cover shoulders if your dress has skinny straps.  If parents have volunteered to send in supplies, please deliver before school on Friday.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:  Due to the response we have had from the first few What Do You Need Wednesday sales, the PTO would like to start hosting these sales on a weekly basis after the holidays, starting Jan 8 through April 29.  In order to do that, we need some volunteers each week to come and help with the sales.  Please look at your calendar and consider signing up to help.  Please note that we can only have the sales each week if we are able to get some volunteers – so check your schedule and see if there might be at least one shirt that you could come out and help.https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0C49AFAC2BA0FD0-what

OMMS PTO is looking for businesses to sponsor our school!  For $250, your company logo will be featured on the OMMS Life Facebook page (which has over 900 followers!) all year long and your company information will be distributed in a school-wide list serve email.  Our partnership allows for extremely targeted advertising to almost 1,100 students and their families!  Please turn in the attached form and your donation to the front office to show your support of OMMS students and teachers!

FCCLA will collect socks for the homeless on our sock tree in the cafeteria through Thursday, December 19.  Donations will benefit Be a Blessing Birmingham, serving the homeless community in Birmingham. Please donate thick, warm socks for men and women – please no slipper socks or novelty socks.  Thank you!
