Cheer Tryout Info Meeting – This will take place on Monday, February 3 at 5:30 in the cafeteria.  Packets are available for pick up from Ms. Salmon/Ms. Toretta’s room (D4/B21)

Dance tryout packets are now available from Mrs. Bishop in room C-9.

Phase 1 will meet Monday, Jan. 27th. Pick up is at 4:15.

Science club will be Tuesday, January 28th from 3:15 until 4:30.

After reviewing the sales from the past few weeks, Academic Partners announces the FINAL What Do You Need Wednesday Sale will be Wednesday, January 29.  Thank you to all the volunteers who have helped with the sales. Registration for the Oak Mountain High School Color Run is now open at www.oakmountaincolorrun.com. The date is March 7 at Oak Mountain State Park. All proceeds will benefit the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB. Help us pass the $100,000 mark raised by supporting and signing up this year!

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the OMMS FCCLA cook-off yesterday.  There were so many delicious entries and judging was a challenge!  Our winners for each category were:  Dairy Dessert – Sissy B with “Classic Creamy Cheesecake”; Poultry – Sophia M with “Panko Pesto Crusted Chicken”; Beef – Alyssa L with “Nuevo Chipotle Beef in Butternut Squash Boats”.  Winners will advance to compete at the county level at the University of Montevallo on February 21.

Debate team will practice today in Mrs. Bolt’s room until 4:00.

Her work will go on to represent Shelby County Schools in Montgomery for the Alabama State Superintendent’s Visual Arts Show. Way to go Raegan and best of luck in the upcoming show!

Due to the response to our monthly school supply sales and requests from students to have it more frequently, Academic Partners is proud to announce that we are planning to host the “What Do You Need Wednesday Sale” weekly starting today through Spring Break.     Remind your kids to bring their money and avoid that trip to Walmart while supporting our school.

January 17 Announcements

A list of students who have purchased a yearbook is posted in the cafeteria.  Please check the list.  If you would like a yearbook and do not see your name on the list, bring cash or check payable to OMMS to Mrs. Thomas (C-5) or Mrs. Foreman (B-2) by today. They are $40 each.

Any 7th or 8th-grade student who has had Mrs. Bishop’s class and is interested in participating in the OMMS cook-off, please see Mrs. Bishop for more information.

Mrs. Acton and Mrs. Hutchings’ students must obtain The Hunger Games before Jan. 27. Turn it in to them. See their blogs for required cover and cost.

Sports physical day will be Wednesday, January 22nd at OMHS.  If you are interested in attending, pick up a physical form from Coach Tatum in PE.  The front page of the form should be filled out and signed by a parent.  Completed and signed forms and a $20 check made payable to OMMS should be turned in no later than today to Coach Tatum only.  Your form and check will be your pass to board the bus.  Any athlete currently playing a winter sport, who will be playing a spring sport, or who has intentions to tryout for cheer or dance, or who will participate in spring football, cross country, volleyball, or basketball evaluations should attend physical day.

7th Grade Washington DC Students:  5th/final payment due today. DC Meeting:  Tuesday, February 4th at 6:00pm in the OMMS Cafeteria. Good luck to our wrestling teams at their home meet tonight against Bumpus and Thompson beginning at 5:30.  All students are invited and will receive free admission if you make a sign to cheer on the wrestling team or an individual wrestler.

Congratulations to our 7th and 8th grade girls basketball teams in their wins over Thompson. 7th grade 25-23, 8th grade 32-20. Also to our 8th grade boys basketball team on their 35-33 win at Thompson.  Cameron C. had 9 points. Jackson B. and Camden S. each added 6.

Parents, when submitting in a doctor note from Urgent Care for Children on Cahaba Park Circle, please make sure that you include your students last name. The doctor’s note does not put them on there.  To insure that it is properly recorded to your child’s record, please write it on the excuse.

As we enter the 2nd semester and the flu season, please be aware that Shelby County Board of Education only allows 10 parent notes per school year.  This includes parent excused sick notes, parent unexcused notes, and principal permission days.  These are days not documented and covered by a doctor’s excuse. Any absence above 10 days not covered by a doctor’s excuse will be considered unexcused.  You can view the number of parent notes you have used in INow.  The complete policy can be found in the Shelby County Board of Education Code of Conduct.

Baseball practice is cancelled today.

Good luck to our basketball teams tonight as they play Thompson tonight.  Girls will play at home and boys will play at Thompson.

Due to a schedule change, our wrestling teams will have a home meet tomorrow night against Bumpus and Thompson beginning at 5:30.  All students are invited and will receive free admission if you make a sign to cheer on the wrestling team or an individual wrestler.
