Valentine Gala Information for Friday, February 8th

Information for Valentine’s Gala on February 8th, 2019
* Students may be dropped off at the front of the school at 6:45 P.M.

*  Attire is dressy. Students must be appropriately attired for admission.
*  Pick up –  Please take note and see the attachment for reference and to share with friends.  Parents will be required to park and pick up your student(s). Please remember to plan accordingly and park nearest your student’s departure point while exercising caution and patience in the parking lots.  Carpooling is encouraged!  
 
Pick up times/location:
*  6th grade – 9 p.m. at the front entrance of the building only.
 
*  7th grade – 9:30 p.m. at door #3 (B-west hall) – west side of building
 
*  8th grade – 10 p.m. – door #7 – Gym entrance

February 4 Announcements

Physical forms have been returned to student-athletes who participated in Physical Day. Please follow the directions on the attached flier to create a DragonFly Max account, and upload your child’s physical to DragonFly Max. Indicate the sport(s) that your child will tryout for in the spring and/or will participate in for the 2019-2020 school year. You can go ahead and complete all of the requirements now, but please know that you will have to update the Concussion Form and Student-Release Form for the 2019-2020 school year once released by the AHSAA, which typically happens in July.

Oak Mountain Middle School is Hosting a Battle of the Classes for the most Coupons for Classrooms Book Sales.  The grade that sells the most coupon books will win a slushy & game party.  Contest runs Wednesday, January 30th – Friday, February 8th. (flyer attached)

Volunteers needed:  The Valentine’s Gala will be on Friday, February 8th and we can’t do it without your help.  If you have any questions please email Melissa Bailey at beesabailey@gmail.com.

Local company, Southern Post, is hosting it’s 2nd Annual “Winter Soiree” at Inverness Country Club February 23, 2019. Enjoy a night out with the Oak Mountain Community and give back to your school at the same time.  100% of the proceeds go to Oak Mountain Middle Schools PTO.  The event begins at 6:30 and includes dinner by Chef Daniel Mitchell and live music by Chase Evan Wilson.  A full cash bar will be available for the night as well.  Visit www.SouthernPostAlabama.com to purchase tickets.  Last year was a huge success and we look forward to an even better year in 2019!  (flyer attached)

As Valentines Day approaches, let’s show the teachers some LOVE and help them restock their classroom during a Classroom Supply Drive starting Monday, January 28 and ending Monday, February 4.  We are asking that 6th graders send in a bottle(s) of hand sanitizer, 7th graders send in a box(es) of Kleenex, and 8th graders send in a roll(s) of paper towels.  Academic Partners will accumulate all the items, sort them, and distribute them to all classroom teachers (core and electives).  Please consider donating items and have them delivered to the front office by Monday, February 4. Thanks for supporting our teachers and showing them the LOVE!!!!

OMHS counseling department invites parents of rising 9th graders to an informational meeting, tonight in the OMMS cafeteria, beginning at 6pm.  Please enter door #7 near the gym.

Tuesday, February 5th-on this date, Zoe’s Kitchen will donate 25% of all proceeds from food sales to the family of Birmingham Police Sergeant Wytasha Carter. Sergeant Carter was killed in the line of duty while protecting and serving, and his family are members of our OM community. Participating locations include, Brook Highland, Patton Creek, Vestavia, Soho, Crestline, Summit, Trussville, and Downtown Birmingham. (flyer attached)

Washington DC Parent/Student Meeting will be Tuesday, February 5th at 6:00pm in the OMMS Cafeteria. Please enter through door #7 (by the Gym).

Congratulations to our 2019 FCCLA cookoff winners! Alana B (dairy dessert), Natalie G (beef), and Kat M (poultry). These students will represent OMMS at the Shelby County Cook-off at The University of Montevallo on February 22.

Congratulations to our JUNA team on a successful performance at the JUNA conference last week. Japan’s resolution passed in the General Assembly and Germany won the Judges Spirit Award!

SGA will meet at 7:20am Tuesday in Mrs. Higg’s room.

Valentine candy grams will be sold by SGA during lunch today – Wednesday of this week. The candy grams are $1 each. Send some love to a friend, teacher, or yourself. Candy grams will be delivered during advisory.

Eagle Ambassadors should bring their short sleeve shirts for a yearbook photo during advisory on Wednesday at 2:40 outside D-5.

Congratulations to our robotics teams that competed in the Irondale Tournament this weekend. Team C won the Robot Skills Award and Team B came in 2nd in the Teamwork Challenge.

Valentine Gala tickets on sale Thursday and Friday at lunch. Dressy attire! More details to come!

SPORTS NEWS GO EAGLES!!!!

Dance clinic will begin today. Participants should change after the 3:00 bell and be in the gym ready to begin by 3:15.

Track and Field Tryouts will be February 5-7 from 3 to 4:30. It will be held here and we will meet at the track behind the school. Please make sure to complete the DragonFly MAX requirements and see the Track and Field Blog Track and Field Blog for any forms needed!
