September 15 Announcements

Enrolling in Publix Partners is an easy way to support OMMS!

Even though breakfasts and lunches are provided for all students at no cost, if you feel that you would qualify for Free or Reduced Meals, please click here to fill out the application. Other benefits are available to students who qualify.

Students, if you are interested in trying out for the debate team, please make sure that all applications are submitted no later than midnight tonight (Wednesday, September 15th). A completed application includes the Google Form linked on the application form and a recorded speech on Flipgrid. Please note that applications will not be counted unless both steps are complete by the provided deadline. Students will be notified about making the team by next Thursday, September 23rd. 

Good luck to our volleyball teams as they play Liberty Park and Mtn. Brook at Liberty Park today.

Students that are afternoon car riders should plan to bring rain gear the remainder of the week.

Coding Club applications are due today to Mrs. Carter in D-2.

6th graders are reminded & encouraged to dress for tomorrow’s Immigration Simulation that will take place during Social Studies classes.

Next week, September 20-23 is Spirit Week.  Please plan to participate in the following dress up days:  Mon.-  “Say Aloha to Victory”  (Hawaiian dress); Tues.- “Lasso the Lancers” (Western wear); Wed.- “Don’t Sleep on the Eagles” (PJ’s); Thurs.- Spirit Wear-Red, white and blue

The Mountain Bike Team will have its informational and sign-up meeting on September 21st at 6:30 PM in the OMHS Library Media Center.  This team is open to all boys and girls in 6th through 12th grades.  No experience required.  No try-out required.  We teach you everything you need to know!  Everyone is welcome!

Do you love arguing? Have you ever thought about joining the debate team? Well, now is your chance! Come by Mrs. Rich’s room (B14) to pick up an application. Completed applications must be turned in by Wednesday, September 15th! 

Phase 1 Community Service group applications may be picked up from the front office or Mrs. Nobles’ room (A-19). Phase 1 is a community service group that meets once per month to do community service projects to benefit people in need. The group is open to prior members and 6th graders. Completed applications must be returned to A-19 by tomorrow!

September 7th Announcements

Students who ride bus 10-04 will ride bus 09-63 this afternoon.

The SGA election is today.  Students not at school should check their Social Studies teacher’s schoology page for the links.  Voting will end at 4:00pm.  Election results will be posted on the SGA blog after 5pm. https://podcasts.shelbyed.k12.al.us/omms-sga  New SGA OFFICERS will meet tomorrow morning at 7:20am in the cafeteria.  Both officers and representatives will meet next Wednesday, Sept. 15 in the cafeteria at 7:20am.The SGA would like to encourage everyone to wear white tomorrow to show support for our OMMS volleyball teams as we “White Out Homewood!”  Students that wear white to the volleyball games will get in free tomorrow!  8th grade plays at 5, 7th grade plays at 6! Phase 1 Community Service group applications may be picked up from the front office or Mrs. Nobles’ room (A-19). Phase 1 is a community service group that meets once per month to do community service projects to benefit people in need. The group is open to prior members and 6th graders. Completed applications must be returned to A-19 by September 10th. 

Softball tryouts are schedule for September 7th-9th 4-6:30 at OMHS.  Parent meeting will be held on September 16th.  

Season passes are still available for a limited time.  If you purchased a season pass, your name will be on a list at the gate. The ticket does not need to be transferred to your student.  *The family pass includes 4 people, living under the same roof.* Please see the attached PDF for more information about season passes.  NO CASH will be accepted at the gate. Cash will be accepted for concessions.  More information attached.

Students interested in tryouts should see Coach Wells or Coach Civils.  All Paperwork has to be uploaded to Dragonfly by Friday September 10th. September 1 Announcements

The open house parent nights that were originally scheduled for September 7th and September 14th have been cancelled due to updated COVID-19 protocol.

Even though breakfasts and lunches are provided for all students at no cost, if you feel that you would qualify for Free or Reduced Meals, please click here to fill out the application. Other benefits are available to students who qualify.

OMMS teachers would greatly appreciate donations of facial tissues for their classrooms.  Thank you for the items already received.

Morning car rider line drop off will now consist of 2 lanes from 7:10 am to 7:40 am.  Please make sure that students only exit the vehicle at the sound of the whistle.  Students who arrive between 7:10-7:15 should report to the cafeteria until dismissing to class at 7:15.

All SGA candidates are asked to check the list posted outside A-17 before Friday to make sure your name is spelled correctly for the voting ballot.

The football games today vs Mountain Brook will be played at OMMS.  Good luck to our teams!
