OMMS Student Flu Clinic Information and Vaccine Consent Form

OMMS student flu clinic will be held on Monday, October 7th.  Students were given flu vaccine consent forms to take home on Tuesday and Wednesday, to be returned to the school no later than Friday.  Please read the attached information. Consent form is also attached.

October 2 Announcements

OMMS SPIRIT WEEK SEPTEMBER 30TH- OCTOBER 3RD!  Dress up days are as follows: THURSDAY- SOAR PAST THE WARRIORS- RED/WHITE/BLUE EAGLE DAY; 6th grade- WHITE SGA shirts and/or all WHITE; 7th grade- RED SGA shirts and/or all RED; 8th grade- BLUE SGA shirts and/or all BLUE

All dance team members should report to Mrs. Bishop’s room at the beginning of Advisory for a 5 minute meeting today.

The overall winning grade level of spirit week will have a Friday sweatpants/pajama pants (no leggings) day in the near future.  Come dressed in your red, white and blue tomorrow!  Winner will be announced on Friday morning!

OMMS PTO is looking for businesses to sponsor our school!  For $250, your company logo will be featured on the OMMS Life Facebook page (which has over 900 followers!) all year long and your company information will be distributed in a school-wide list serve email.  Our partnership allows for extremely targeted advertising to almost 1,100 students and their families!  Please turn in the attached form and your donation to the front office to show your support of OMMS students and teachers!

OMMS student flu clinic will be held on Monday, October 7th.  Students will bring home consent forms today and tomorrow, to be returned to the school by Friday.  Please read the attached flyer for information on the clinic.

7th graders interested in the Washington DC trip (Thursday, February 13 – Monday, February 17, 2020) need to complete the Google Form and turn in your 1st payment to Mrs. Kennedy in D-6 as soon as possible. Debate Team practice will be Thursday, October 3rd, from 3:00-4:00 pm.  

Our Fall book fair will be here October 7th-15th. Students will attend with their ELA classes. Gift cards can be texted or emailed to personal email addresses, student shelbyed.org addresses will not be accepted. Thank you for your support of our library fundraiser.

EAGLE SPORTS NEWS

In order for a student-athlete to go through evaluations, try-outs, or begin practice with any sports team, the student-athlete must be 100% complete on DragonFly Max (instructions attached)

Make plans to come out to the Battle for the Mountain Faculty Flag Football Game on Tuesday, October 15th at OMMS.   OMMS Faculty vs OMHS Faculty.  Food Trucks (Hollywood Grill, City Bowls and Steel City pops) start at 6pm and game starts at 7pm.  Admission is $3.  Who will be crowned King of the Mountain?

Tennis tryouts will be held at Inverness Racquet Club on Monday October 21st for boys and Tuesday October 22nd for girls.  In order to participate you need to sign up with this Google form https://forms.gle/v3pwkdJQYomA4fm18  and complete all of your eligibility paperwork on dragonflymax.com.  Only those who have completed 100% of their eligibility paperwork will be able to tryout.  If you have any questions you can stop by Mr. Richardson’s room D-8.

Wrestling sign-up sheets are posted on B-, C-, and D-Halls. Everyone interested in wrestling should sign up on one of the posted sheets. Wrestling practice begins Oct. 23. Student-athletes will have two days to try wrestling before committing to the team. Parent meeting is Thursday, Oct. 24 in the cafeteria at 6:00. Girls who want to try-out for basketball need to see Coach Noel & Coach Dillard in the gym.  Try-outs will be October 7-10th. 7th grade from 3-5pm; 8th 5-7th.  

Oak Mountain Middle School boys’ basketball tryouts for the 2019-2020 season will be held October 4-6 at OMMS. If interested, students MUST sign up with Coach Binkley during P.E. In order for students to be able to participate in tryouts, they MUST have an updated physical and all information on Dragonfly updated. If you have any questions please contact Coach Binkley via email @ rbinkley@shelbyed.org. Tryout times are listed below. Please note that students must be at all three tryouts unless otherwise approved by the coaching staff.  Tryouts dates are: Friday: October 4th, 2019 8th:  5:15- 7:15 am, 7th: 3:00-5:15 pm, Saturday: October 5th, 2019 8th: 4:00-6:00 pm, 7th: 6:00-8:00 pm, Sunday: October 6th, 2019 7th: 2:00-4:00 pm, 8th: 4:00-6:00 pm.

Oak Mountain Girls Basketball League is now open.  Registration for girls in the 2nd-6th grades is now open through our web site www.omgb.org or by paper copy.  Please email Coach Noel if you need a form or have any questions at jnoel@shelbyed.org  Early registration cost:  $100; after October 30th cost is $125.  Evaluation/Placement Date: October 30, 2019 at OMMS 7:00-8:00pm 2nd-4th graders; 8:00-9:00pm 5th-6th graders.   Practices will begin November 5th, mainly held on Tuesdays.  Our first game will be Saturday, December 7th. 

Oak Mountain Middle School baseball tryouts for the 2019-2020 team will be held October 18th, 20th, 26th and 27th. Students who are interested must sign up with Coach Renfro (Room A-18) in order to participate in tryouts. Students must have updated physical and all required information submitted on Dragonfly. If you have any questions contact Coach Renfro (j2renfro@shelbyed.org). Tryout Schedule: Friday, October 18th (3:45-6:00) and Sunday, October 20th (1:30-4:30). A preliminary cut will be made after the first 2 tryout dates. The final round of tryouts will be Saturday, October 26th (9:00-12:00) and Sunday, October 27th (1:30-4:30).  All tryouts will be held at Oak Mountain High School.

Oak Mountain High School Girls Golf Tryouts  will be October 28th. We have several spots open this year.  7th and 8th graders are eligible to tyout, but must have knowledge of the game.  You must have a current physical on file to tryout. If you need a physical form, more information or to schedule your tryout, email Coach Susan Schwartz at the high school:  sschwartz@shelbyed.org.   She can send you the information sheet for tryouts.
