October 25th Announcements

Meeting Information

6th, 7th and 8th grade Scholars Bowl will meet today from 3-4:30 instead of meeting on Tuesday (10/26).

First Priority will meet tomorrow at 7:15 in the Cafeteria.

Eagle Ambassadors will meet at 7:20 on Tuesday, Oct. 26th to make the baskets for Jessie’s Place.

JUNA will meet after school today until 4:30pm.

SGA members need to check the Schoology page for an important announcement.

School Appropriate Halloween Costumes this Friday

The SGA would like to invite students, teachers, & staff to wear your best school appropriate Halloween costume this Friday, October 29th.  Remember no full masks, no paint (hair, face, or body), and costumes must follow dress code.

Novel for Mrs. Acton and Mrs. Hutchings Classes

Mrs. Acton and Mrs. Hutchings’ ELA students need a physical copy of the novel Look Both Ways by Jason Reynolds by November 4. Contact your teacher if you need help getting the book ASAP. 

Fall Gala Coming Soon

Fall Gala will be here soon! Hope you all can join us for an afternoon full of fun on Friday, November 5th for games, music, concessions and all sorts of yummy snacks and treats. 6th graders will be during school from 12:20-2:30pm. 7th graders will be from 3-5pm and 8th graders from 3-5:30pm. Ticket and volunteer information will be coming soon.

Yearbooks For Sale

2021-2022 yearbooks are for sale!  Go to balfour.com/yearbooks and search for Oak Mountain Middle School.  They are only $40 now through January 31st.  Get them while they are hot!

SGA BOO Grams This Week

The SGA will be selling BOO Grams (candy) this week, Tuesday-Thursday, during lunch in the cafeteria.  Send BOO Grams to your friends, teachers, or even yourself.  BOO Grams are $1 each and will be delivered each afternoon during Advisory. 

Canned Food Drive Collection Underway
The OMMS Phase I Community Service Group’s annual canned food drive to benefit Oak Mountain Mission will run October 18-26.  All canned and non-perishable items are appreciated, but primary needs include canned vegetables and fruits, peanut butter, jelly, and boxed macaroni and cheese. So far the top winners for each grade level are as follows:  6th grade–Very close between –Pierce and Carter; 7th Graddy and Alaimo; 8th Holmes and Turpen.  We are up to 1208 and we are working toward a goal of 2,000 by tomorrow.  Please bring in as many items as possible. Can your class win the pizza party?   

OMMS Sports Updates

OM Boys Rec Basketball League InformationRegistration is now open for the OM Boys Rec Basketball League. The league is open to all 2nd-6th grader boys residing in the Oak Mountain area. Cost is $130/player and there will be 60 spots for each age group (2-4 and 5-6). Please follow our Facebook page for updates.

OM Girls Basketball League InformationRegistration for girls in 2nd-6th grades is now open through our web site www.omgb.org or by hard copy. Please email Coach Noel  if you need a form or have any questions contact Coach Noel at jnoel@shelbyed.org
Early registration cost: $125; After Oct.25th cost is $140 Evaluation/Placement date: October 26th at OMMS  7:00-8:00pm 2nd-4rd graders 8:00-9:00 5th-6th graders. First Game Saturday, November 13, 2021. First Practice Nov. 2nd 7:00-8:00pm 2nd-4rd graders 8:00-9:00 5th-6th graders. Practices will be mainly held on Tuesday evenings.

Athletic Boosters Meeting Tomorrow Evening

Everyone is invited to attend the OMMS athletic booster club meeting Tuesday, October 26 at 7pm in the OMMS cafeteria.  Coach Burdett will be speaking to us about the upcoming tennis season and Coach White will be speaking to us about the upcoming Wrestling season.

OMHS Band Poinsettia Fundraiser
It’s time for the annual poinsettia fundraiser that benefits the OMHS band percussion section.  The poinsettias are florist quality from Wheeler Greenhouses in Montgomery.  Orders are due Friday 11/12, and flowers will be delivered Wednesday 12/1 in the OMHS band room.  Please use the attached form to order plants for your family and as gifts.  Thanks for your consideration and support!
