Checking in…

Hi. Sorry I’ve been absent from this blog!  Parents, very little homework has been sent out since we started back this 9 weeks.  Most of their work has been done in the classroom…the only homework is what is not finished in class.  They should be reading a book of their own choice at home.  Have you been seeing your child reading? 🙂  I’m so happy to see some students reading when they have previously expressed that they didn’t like reading very much. 🙂

Today we reviewed pronoun case in the Writer’s Choice book and discussed the free verse in Walt Whitman’s “A Noiseless, Patient Spider.”

On Friday, students continued working with Wordworth’s poem, “I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud.”  They also did the questions after the poem, on page 521, 1-6. (Lit book)

Today we went to the library and the students picked out a book that seemed interesting to them. I just wanted them to pick out a book that they wanted to read.  Please encourage them to read when/if you see the books at home.

No homework tonight, other than possibly reading! 🙂 Enjoy the SEC game.

Happy 2012!

january12<—-January Class Calendar

Yesterday we started the 3rd nine weeks when we started poetry.  Some students have been thrilled, others not so much. 🙂 We read “The Charge of the Light Brigade” by Tennyson and watched two short video clips that helped the students understand the poem better  (I hope!).  We also reviewed and wrote down the poetry literary terms/definitions on pages 508, 509, 518, and 519.

Today we started Wordsworth’s “I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud”.  Tomorrow we will continue our study of this poem. Have a great day!

Today we finished Act 4 in class.  Please do answers only to the questions on page 789.  We will review them tomorrow.  Also, if you haven’t finished the review sheet of literary terms, you need to have that done by tomorrow as well.

Change to calendar: No test on Acts 4 and 5 on Wednesday. That will be covered on the benchmark which is on Friday.

FOLDERS/TABLE OF CONTENTS due on FRIDAY!  100 points.  Use your folder to help you get ready for the benchmark.

Also on benchmark:  Parallel Structure, vocab from Romeo and Juliet, subject/verb agreement…

Friday’s Computer Lab Assignment

You should have your literature book or your No Fear Shakespeare book here with you. You should also have your folder which has all the work we have put on the table of contents so far. Use both of these items to help you complete today’s work.

You can choose to:

A.  Make a fake facebook page for one of the characters from Romeo and Juliet.  Here is one I started for Boo Radley from TKAM: facebookboo  Click here—>   facebook       to get a totally empty template for you to work with. When you are done, print out and turn in. 🙂

B. If you don’t want to do the first assignment, you can make word clouds about Romeo and Juliet on Wordle.  You could use the ABC exercise we did in class (every class except first did it) to help you with this.  Print out and turn in when you are done. Make sure you have your name on the back!!!

If you get done early, check out our school’s new online newspaper! They did a great job!

Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011

Today I gave students time to make sure their folders are in order and they have the table of contents written down, etc.  Folders will be taken up next Friday, after the benchmark.

Today in class we also wrote down the vocabulary for Act Four and did a review activity I call the ABC activity. If you are absent today, be sure to get a sheet from the make up box.

We read Act 4, scene 1. Fourth period got through some of scene 2.

No homework other than to finish that review sheet for literary terms that you got yesterday.
