Thursday, September 8

Today we spent time in the PHS library getting to know the layout and how to find things that we need in there.  We worked on little netbooks and everything. 🙂 If you didn’t finish your quiz on the library, you can finish it when we are in the computer lab on next Tuesday.  Remember…we will be in the computer lab, room 96, on next Tuesday and Thursday, typing the final draft of your sensory details/Poe essay.  On those two days you will also be able to take the AR quizzes on your summer reading.  Be prepared!

Parents, schoolwide progress reports go out on next Friday, September 16.  Every student in my class got an early progress report (except for third period) and were required to get it signed by you and returned to me. Thanks so much.

Friday/Labor Day Weekend/September Calendar

sept2011 Advanced 9 English calendar—print off a color version here or wait until Tuesday and you’ll get a b/w one from me.

Sorry for the absence on here. My computer at home is not working and that’s where I do most of my posts.  This week the students have been writing 3-5 paragraph essays on sensory details in Poe’s “The Cask of Amontillado.” The actual assignment is on page 65 of the literature textbook.

I sent home progress reports with everyone in my first period class, so if your child is in first period, please ask to see it and sign it. The student should then return to me.

Other classes will get their early progress reports home next week.

Weekend homework: Yesterday the students read the short story “The Interlopers” by Saki.  They then did 1-8 right after the story. Write questions and answers.  The weekend homework is to do page 86, answers only. You do not have to do the part that involves partner activity.

Monday, August 29

Today we started writing in our journals. We will write in the journals for the next two weeks, then we will switch back to warm ups for two weeks and then back to journals.

In class, students finished page 64 (answers only) in literature book, then students worked on an essay about three sensory images that create setting in Poe’s short story. (See page 65 for more information.)  The essay should be between 3-5 paragraphs.

TEST ON WEDNESDAY on the 3 stories.

Folders due on that day as well.
