“when you see the stuffed big bird, take a right”

driving directions on the mobile marathon…

“world order” by henry kissenger – wonderful book – really great framework for understanding how the world works – why china does what it does – why the middle east is messed up – the adage, those that don’t read history are doomed to repeat it – we’d do well to listen to statesmen and their wisdom instead of making up policy as we go

“1D” – their autobiographies – the soccer references were awesome – one got to rehab at chelsea football club – jealous

“100 sideways miles” – recommended YA to me – but i can’t recommend it – not a great book – but hey, the author is well on his way in the world now so he doesn’t need my ringing endorsement (one thing that bugged me, he made a point in his “author information” to say that he doesn’t watch TV – still, he wrote the stupidest book i’ve read in a long time – so was the TV thing supposed to mean he was smart???)

“jeter: unfiltered” – photo books are awesome – i “read” 240 pages in a day – i love baseball anyway – obviously, i would’ve liked more of jeter’s story – he’s getting his feet with publications though so i may get the story eventually – class act

sorry i’m late

  1. You know how you’re supposed to make new years resolutions? And you know how many people make them and then don’t ever keep up with them? Well I was reading about how this originated. Apparently the earliest recorded celebration of the new year was around 4,000 years ago in Babylon.

Did you know the most broken resolutions are:
    Losing Weight
    Makingโ€”and Savingโ€”More Money
    Working Out
    Getting a New Job
    Eating Healthier
    Stopping Smoking
    Managing Stress Better
    Improving a Relationship

I feel like all these are things that everyone kind of wants to do but they’re so “big” in their minds that it would take too much time or that they don’t have enough incentive. Like i feel alot of people would like to be slimmer and they’ve dreamed about it forever but they don’t have enough incentive or maybe they just don’t have enough will power to turn down those fries. New year’s resolutions are things i like people write down to make themselves feel like they have control in their lives. It makes them feel has if they can change things about themselves in a snap and they think they can do it. But usually people even forget about doing things or they just say “oh ill do it next year” Usually people just procrastinate things they need to do and then make it their new years resolution the next year. But then is it really a NEW year’s resolution or is it just another thing you can’t control in life if you don’t try hard enough.

:42 seconds to play for Alabama to score. They were down 3 to #1 ranked Kentucky. Coach Anthony Grant wanted the ball to Senior and team captain Levi Randolph. So the inbound pass was made to Levi and he quickly pulled up for a three and drained it. Kentucky, now with :30 left wanted to ball down low and try to get a foul. And they succeded. Harrison made both at the line. Ball back to Bama with :14 left. Inbound was made with full-court pressure coming from Kentucky. They ran through there offense quik and Randolph drained a three. :01 left and Kentucky tried to get a foul but he got blocked! Alabama wins

  6. Book: The Shadow Project
    Prompt: Dialectical Journal 1
Line: It was the weirdest collection he’d ever seen: cabinets and displays of African masks and jujus, ceremonial swords, Egyptian ankhs, chalices, brass discs, wands, thuribles, and a load of other religious junk, along side-and this was the really weird bit-a bank of scary machines like the things they hook you up to in the hospital, a control console that must have come from outer space, and one of the coolest sound systems he’d ever seen, with speakers that were actually bigger than he was.
Commentary: This sentence is more complex and longer than it appears on the surface. It means more than just a list of things in the room. It expresses Danny’s amazement, fright, and confusion. It also is the first impression we get on the room, therefore making a great impact on our view on it.

ON the last day of Passover, gendarmes came to Zeev’s door, they were from hungarian police. They working for the Germans. Zeev was 21 years old and lived with his brothers and sisters also his mom and dad. The men at the door woke them up and told them to start packing. They said, “You can bring clothes, food, bedding and ONLY 50 km a person. Zeev’s family was confused. The men beat the people in to trucks.

  13. The Nazi Hunters
Over the next few days 14,000 Jews from the city and surrounding regions were forced into an old factory. They were told by the German troops that they were being moved away from a “military operational zone” so they would “be protected from the Russians. This made Zeev uncomfortable, because him and his family were now living on factory grounds, in a “shelter” with NO walls. Also with a small amount of food (potato soup).

  16. ok so here’s another poem – maybe i’ll actually write one good enough for the lit magazine at some point.

    Happiness

Lots of people think that they determine the level of this.
When in reality, its the people that we place around us.
Whether or not you can be yourself around them means a lot.
Whether or not they improve your character means a lot.
Whether or not they are truly your friends, means a lot.
Lots of people tend to make friends for the moment.
These friends may be there to laugh and cut up with you,
But they won’t be there in your times of need.
They will be present in your sucess,
But not in your hardships along the way.
Happiness IS depending on the people around you.
Choose wisely, because they will also change you.
With these friends, you resort to trying to make yourself happy with them.
You stress yourself beyond comprehension to be happy.
You don’t gain happiness out of being around them,
So you strain yourself to with all of your might.
But when you are filled with joy without effort,
When you are with a select group of people,
That is when you find the one and only formula to happiness.

i feel like this should be on a extremely big cat poster, but okay.

  20. Alexa and the group went outside to eat. After about half way though eating it started pouring down rain and so they decided to come inside so that they didn’t get a cold.

The whole group that was at the volleyball lock-in got into groups of five so that they could play volleyball. Alexa, Jalyn, Jordan, and Cameron were all on a team And then another girl was on their too and she was really good!

In the very end Alexa, Jalyn, Cameron, and Jordan’s group won by fifteen. Once again they won t shirts and they loved them and wore them all day like they were bragging and they were really.

They were so happy. Chrystal handed out prices of papers to put the names of the favorite part of the lock-in and the favorite person. Alexa said singing around the campfire with all the people and Jalyn. Jalyn did the same but voted for Alexa. Cameron said playing around and Jordan. Jordan said playing basketball and voted for me.
you could hear the clinging of something. After about ten minuets the lights turned back on and Chrystal said ” Is everyone okay?”

every one said yes and somebody said ” what did they steal?”

After they said that everyone just ran around panicking and trying to find out what they stole but no one could figure it out quite yet. Alexa, Jalyn, Jordan, and Cameron all thought they knew what it was ( the wildcat )

Alexa screamed ” they stole the wildcat! OMG what are we going to do?!” Lets call the police! Dont just sit there and do nothing! THE WILDCAT IS MISSING!”

Jalyn, Jordan, and Cameron had to hold Alexa back before she could bow up on this girl that was crying.

Chrystal had called the police to report the missing wildcat and alexa, jordan, cameron, and jalyn went to see if their was any evidence.

They found a note and opened it. The note said ” you will never find me I am in a place far away from Columbiana alabama!”

  21. I turned in “The Nazi Hunters” because it was hard to blog on, (because I cannot spell have the words in the book!!!!!!!) so now i am reading, “January” ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ™‚

  22. January
Cal was sitting on a boat with his Uncle, (Uncle Rafe) then fireworks started to explode and people started screaming, “Happy new year!” Cal was aware that it was a “new year” but he said it was anything short of happy. He then noticed that other small boats started to leave or disapear, and Cal said, “Uncle Rafe, there is a big squall coming up, we should get back now. Then Cal started noticing more boats leaving so he said, “Rafe, start the motor now!”

  23. January
Then Cal said, ” The squall is going to hit any minute. We have to get back!” Cal pulled out the life jackets and threw one at Rafe. “Cal, don’t you think you are worrying to much?” Rafe said. “The squall is going to hit any minute, you have no idea how fast the squalls move in..” said Cal. Rafe had only been to the lake house a few times. “Trust me…”

  26. Hey,
I’m currently working my way through “Macbeth” by Shakespeare. So far I’ve finished acts 1&2. I find in this drama that Shakespeare has bent gender roles. Lady Macbeth wishes for the Evil to “unsex” her or remove that which was of her character to be caring and compassionate. This creates a very evil aura for Lady Macbeth. Macbeth’s conscience still stands, yet she continually persuades him and bully’s him into planning further and producing these Evil acts. Macbeth, is derailed by these horrible deeds; however, Lady Macbeth was willing to commit the crime herself with no guilt. She shows him her bloody hands, the same “color” as his, however, she would feel “shame” to bear a “heart so white”. Macbeth is controlled and manipulated by Lady Macbeth. In order to get her way she challenges his love for her, demasculates him, and calls him a coward, and due to this he does whatever she pleases. Through this she gains more power. Any power Macbeth gains she gains as well. Thus creating a very uncompassionate power-hungry evil “women”- personally I think she’s a witch.

Now the other work I’ve been doing has been focused on getting me into college, and my actual job- Firehouse. So I’ve been busy.

  27. Monday- “Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you’ll start having positive results.”

When you have negative thoughts you get negative results. You always thinking about what could go wrong so your not focused on being good. When you have positive thoughts you get positive results because your confident in yourself

  30. Sports Illustrated-Alabama Football(thanks mayfield)

The X-factor for Alabama is punter JK Scott.

JK Scott is a punter, who is a really small part of something big. People forget about how the punter really is a big part in the game. People always forget about small people and they are left out.

“If you make these grades, you will never play at a D-1 school. It is impossible. They will not take you.”

This is what Blake Sims was told during high school. He had scholorships from Alabama, Tennesee, and Georgia. His wanted his dream to live on, so he had to improve his grades. If your an athlete your always a Student-Athlete. Student first and that’s what Blake had to do.

  31. Wow, just wow, I just typed a whole paragraph and my internet was just like, nope. Well anyways im reading the book Huck Finn by mark twain and it’s definitely a really good book, and at the same time a very different book with its strange words it uses like warn’t which I’ve never heard of but apparently auto correct has and it just shortens a lot of words also. Im to the part in the book where Huck is in a club that they founded in a cave and they’re supposed to be robbers but it’s pretty much all just fake because they’re just pretending to rob diamonds from Arabs and then keep them in the cave and keep the women and treat them as royalty in their cave so they will be nice to them.

  32. The ever-so overused concept of “cliff hangers”.

The books that an author write are papers of their wills and leberties. But, though there is freedom of the press, so would argue that the liberties taken might be a little to harsh or offensive towards someone or some group. Example, the news paper with the cartoon dipiction of Osama Benladin. And in the some cases, the person or group may become hostile and retaliate (also part of the french news paper incident). But some of these liberties taken may not be that harsh. But to an certain extent, it can be a little confusing, both one why they did it and how it chops up the book, instaed of letting the story flow smoothly.

The not-so-smooth configuration of the chapters with in the 5th book of the “Keys to the Kingdom” book, “Lady Friday”, jumps from one main character (Aurthor) and another (Leaf), leaving the readers quite confused from the sudden lurch from one life state to another. Though two seperate stories are being told, they seen to work around each other. Example, ending on story with a question and answering it in the first sentence of the next pick-up chapter for that specific story.

  33. Line: I turned ten years old today

Line: Thanksgiving came with the normal rush of excitement
Commentary: Callie is helping her granny prepare for Thanksgiving dinner. She heard a knock at the door. She rushed to the door. All of her family was standing there waiting to see her and her granny .Thanksgiving came with the normal rush of excitement, Callie thought to herself.

Line: The next few weeks were busy for Callie
Commentary: Callie had gone back to school and had an assignment to do for one of her teachers. She had to write about something from her history like her ancestors or great grandmothers. She decided to write about her diary one of her family members wrote. She had more homework to finish also. The next few weeks were busy for Callie.

    Creative:

I was outside playing volleyball with my friends and enjoying summer break. When all of a sudden hail started falling from the sky. My mom ran outside and yelled “Everybody hurry inside so you don’t get hurt!” Me, Kate, And Mollie hurried inside and thought of what to do because my mom said no volleyball inside. We decided to play Rummikub. Then we looked outside the windows and the hail had gotten bigger. Me and my friends called their parents and asked “Can we stay the night for one more night since it’s raining hail?” Their parents said yes. It finally stopped raining hail so we went outside and played volleyball again. We found other stuff to do before they went home in the morning. Before we knew it, it was morning. They went home and I was bored again. With nobody their to play volleyball with or Rummikub. My mom doesn’t like Rummikub and volleyball. I just watched TV until it was time for bed. Then for the next few weeks I read books and watched TV.

  34. ok so for my last blog of the week, i’ll give a summary of what i’ve read this week.

i’ve been reading this book that i picked up in mrs. boyd’s class once because i needed something to do, and it turns out that i haven’t been able to abandon it yet. it’s one of those compilations of war stories, and i’ve been enjoying it. its a pretty easy read and all, but it’s pretty neat to hear these stories of heroism that have never been told before, and have gone virtually unnoticed.

i’ve also always been a fan of action/adventure books, and this, being true stories and all, takes that to a whole new level. knowing that these stories really happened, makes the traits shown so much more incredible.

  35. Tuesday- “A day of worry is more exhausting than a week of work.”

    John Lubbock

When you worry its wears you down it wears you out. When you worry about something your focusing all of your energy on it. When you focus all of your time and energy its drains you not just physically but mentally also. This can have the equivalency of a week of work and you know when its draining when the work doesn’t matter.

“Ignorant men raise questions that wise men answered a thousand years ago.”

  37. Wednesday- “Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light.”

    Helen Keller

When your in the dark even if its an inner challenge or what ever that person is facing the fact that they are accompanied by a friend makes the darkness seem more appealing to them rather than being in the light alone. People need other people they need to be around one another it doesn’t matter the stakes or situation.

  38. Wednesday- ” A single rose can be my garden… a single friend, my world.”

    Leo Buscaglia

You don’t have to have this huge elaborate garden or many things that make up your world like art, people, music, etc. When you love something and hold it dearly to you it doesn’t matter how big how small or what it is for that matter it is YOUR world.

    Forgot this one.

  39. Thursday-“Friendship is one mind in two bodies.”

    Mencius

They connect on and emotional and intellectual level. When your best friends with some one its like they know what your going to say before you do, your one person split into two and that’s why you connect and understand each other your really just the same person.

“Your friend is your needs answered.”

    Khalil Gibran

Your friends are there for you when you need to cuddle or need to eat your heart out. When you need ” a pick me up” or any like that they are an answer to your prayers we don’t realize this because we take it for granted but everything we need in life we can count on our friends to be that thing or be there.

  40. my day has been made with a poem from olive-a

i remember macbeth from laundry advice:) that, and watching it with vincent kids at one of my first sub ventures

so very glad i can be in comedy land with Shakespeare – the tragedies are similar – it’s just that the luck turns the other way – but yeah, Shakespeare hasn’t really bent the gender roles if the point is that Lady Macbeth is a witch (which i agree with, pun intended) – it just reinforces that women shouldn’t act like men – that they should stay in their roles
