A Message From Dr. Larry Haynes

Dear OMMS Parents and Guardians:

Thank you for your consistent support so far during ACAP testing.  As most of you know, due to a glitch with a major hub at the Alabama State Department of Education, we were not able to administer the first section of the ACAP English Language Arts/Reading assignment on Tuesday, April 12.  Fortunately, we were able to get in the first two days of testing on Wednesday and Thursday.

Due to the change, we will now be testing all students on the following days next week:

Monday, April 17 English Language Arts (All grades)

Tuesday, April 18  Mathematics (All grades)

Wednesday, April 19  Mathematics (All grades)

Since the results of these tests will provide insight on student mastery in addition to areas in need of growth for each subject tested, it is important that we provide as many supports as possible.  Here are some research tested methods to help students on testing days:

¡         Get a good night of rest and sleep.

¡         Eat a good breakfast that includes protein.  (The OMMS cafeteria will be serving high protein items such as sausage biscuits, bacon, egg, and cheese croissants, etc. on testing days.  The cafeteria will also try to have grape juice available on testing days.)

¡         At the school level, we will test in the mornings, and observe a bell schedule that allows students an opportunity to have time with each teacher.

¡         Since testing cannot be interrupted, students will not be able to check in or check out prior to 10:00 a.m. on testing days.

¡         There will be no homework assignments or major class assessments until testing is completed.

¡         Since Chromebooks are being utilized for testing, in addition to students having no outside assignments, all Chromebooks will remain at school until testing is over.

Thank you in advance for helping this year’s state test go as smoothly as possible.

Sincerely,

Larry Haynes, Principal

Feed the Need:  You guys have been doing a great job of raising funds for our school and you’ve been getting some really cool prizes….so far, a lot of you have already gotten a homework pass, a pass to sit with your friends at lunch, and a late assignment pass…. well, it’s not too late for those of you who haven’t! You can STILL register, and you can STILL win the prizes I just mentioned… and the prizes I just mentioned….well, that’s just the start. Only students who raise $100 will receive a T-shirt and get to go to the packing party!

We’re gonna pack 10,000 meals at the end of this fundraiser and part of the money that we raise is going to go towards doing this and part of the money we raise is going to benefit our school. We are partnering with Oak Mountain Missions as well as Grace Klein so we are helping people in OUR community! It’s important not only to care about our school but it’s equally important to care about those in need and this fundraiser is about both. So, let’s show that we care about both of these things, and get out there, and start raising money tonight, tomorrow, and the rest of next week. You guys are doing great so far! Let’s keep it going!  https://p2p.onecause.com/omms

A Message from Dr. Larry Haynes

Dear OMMS Parents and Guardians:

ACAP testing resumes tomorrow (4/11) with the ACAP Reading/English Language Arts Assessment.  The OMMS teachers and staff are working diligently with our students to make sure they have a strong and positive experience throughout the state assessment process.

Thank you to 6th and 8th grade parents for your support during the ACAP Science Assessment prior to Spring Break.  With only five days of testing ahead, we are hoping this will help our students avoid testing fatigue. The testing days are as follows:

Tuesday, April 11 –           English Language Arts (All grades)

Wednesday, April 12 –     English Language Arts (All grades)

Thursday, April 13 —         English Language Arts (All grades)
