The Latest in English Class

Hello! As most of you know, everything is on Google Classroom, but for parents who don’t know how to access it through their child’s email, here is what we have been up to this past week anGreat-Gatsby-Memesd what’s on the horizon.

On Monday, we were off for Labor Day!

Tuesday, September 6, 2016:  Bellringer #14, then took notes from the Prezi slideshow (on Google Classroom site) and started reading some of chapter one of The Great Gatsby.

Wednesday, September 7, 2016: Bellringer #15, we started summary squares for TGG, then finished chapter one.

Thursday, September 8, 2016: Bellringer #16, we read chapter 2 of The Great Gatsby

Friday, September 9, 2016: Bellringer #17. We took a break from Gatsby and read Anna Quindlan’s essay about 9/11 that is in our textbook but also online “One Day Now Broken In Two” that was in Newsweek in 2002.

No homework over the weekend.

On Monday we will get back into The Great Gatsby with chapter 3.

On Tuesday,  I will give you a reading guide with questions for chapters 1-3. Please complete and put in your notebook as pages 9,10, and 11

On Wednesday we will watch the video up to where we are in the book (1999 version).Wednesday is also when bellringers are due (11 to 20).

On Thursday we will read chapter 4 of Gatsby after we take a notebook test. Gold grade.

On Friday, I will be at Tech Academy (a county professional development class) and I want you to practice your grammar knowledge with work in Writer’s Choice. You will be practicing the use of the dash.  After you are done, please turn in. Finish reading chapter 4 of Gatsby by Monday.

Thursday, September 1:

  1. Bellringer 12
  2. Pass back papers that have been graded. Please check for NO Name papers and claim yours/turn it back in.
  3. Review of Nobel Prize questions that you should have in your notebook.
  4. Semicolon and Colon review (test tomorrow) using No Red Ink and the videos on Google Classroom
  5. Anticipation Guide for The Great Gatsby (Will not need book until Tuesday after Labor Day)
  6. Discussion

Friday, September 2, 2016

  3. Discuss the anticipation guide from yesterday (if not done)
  4. Introduction to the novel’s setting, etc. using Prezi powerpoint
