Here’s a link to “The Cask of Amontillado.”

Here are the questions:

1. What are one or two questions you would ask Montrestor?

2. How does Montresor get Fortunato to come with him to his vaults? What is Montresor’s motive for leading Fortunato there?

3. What kind of relationship does Montresor have with the people who take care of his home?  What does this reveal about him?

4. Describe the conversation between Montresor and Fortunato as they walk in the catacombs.  What is ironic about Montresor’s concern for Fortunato’s health?

5. Explain what happens to Fortunato at the end of the story.  In what ways is this a “perfect” crime?

6.  What details does Poe include to show Montresor as a cold blooded killer? Do you think his portrayal is effective? Why or why not?

7.  Why might Poe have chosen to write this story from the first person point of view, describing only Montresor’s thoughts and not Fortunato’s?

8.  What is the moment of greatest horror in the story? How well does Poe build up to this moment?

9.  Is “The Cask of Amontillado” an effective horror story? Explain.

Research Paper Help–YOUR QUESTIONS!

Answers to the most asked questions:

1. When is the final typed research paper due?

Monday, May 13

2. How long is it supposed to be?

8 paragraphs. Intro, 6 body paragraphs, conclusion

3. How much is the final paper worth?

200 pts

4. Do I need a Works Cited?

Yes. See this for an example.

5. What if I don’t do a Works Cited page?

Then you lose 25 points on the rubric.

6. Do I need to let you see my outline?

Yes. By this Friday for 50 pts.

7. Is the 50 pts part of the 200 pts for the paper?

No, it’s a separate grade.

8.  What does an outline look like?

See the post before this one! 🙂

9.  What do you mean by “cite sources” or “parenthetical documentation”?

When you are putting your notes that back up your theories in your research paper, you need to give credit to the people who wrote those words. See this for an example.

10. How many times do I need to use parenthetical documentation?

At least 6. About once in each body paragraph.

11.  Do I need to let you see my rough draft?

YES! I need to see it by Friday so I can help you with it. It is also worth 50 pts.  Please type if at all possible. My eyes are not what they used to be. 🙂

12.  I am using a source from the internet that has no page numbers. How do I cite it?

In parenthetical references in the text, works on the internet are cited just like printed works. For any type of source, you must include information in your text that directs readers to the correct entry in the works cited list. Web documents generally do not have fixed page numbers or any kind of section numbering. If your source lacks numbering, you have to omit numbers from your parenthetical reference.  So basically, if the author on the internet is named Wally Brown, your parenthetical citation would look like this: (Brown).

13.  What font should I use?

Times New Roman

14.  What size font?

TWELVE/12

15.  Do I have to double space my paper?

YES.

16.  Can I email you my paper if my printer doesn’t work?

Yes, only if you have to.  Try the library, a friend’s house, the PHS library, etc. before you resort to that though.  If you don’t get a response from me, I did not get the paper.

After the source cards and notecards…comes the OUTLINE

Unsolved Mysteries Outline

Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a comment

Hello! What we’ve been up to…

Monday we did both book and web research in the library.

Tuesday I checked to see if you had at least five sources on five source cards.

If you are working on getting these to me, please get them to me soon!

Wednesday (today) I showed students a Powerpoint about how to do notecards, met individually with students who were having issues with their topic, and gave class opportunity to take notes on printouts or from the books from the library that I have in the classroom.

Thursday:  Students will begin to work on their outline if they have a minimum of 25 notecards done and 5 source cards done.

Friday:  Students will work on outline or begin writing a rough draft.  I will help as needed, of course.
