Friday

Magritte-The_False_MirrorToday in class we read as much of Act II of Romeo and Juliet as we could and turned in our journals.  They have been writing one entry a day for 3 weeks, totalling 15 entries (at least half a page).

No homework over the weekend. We’ll finish Act II on Monday and view parts of video on Tuesday. Test on Act II and Act III will be together the week after Thanksgiving. (Later in that week.)

Wednesday

iamscoutVocab test taken…grades were either extremely high or extremely low. Few “in between” grades. Definitely shows me who studied! 🙂

Put vocab books up until January. The rest of November and the short time we have in December before Christmas break will be nothing but grammar and Romeo and Juliet.  (No projects for the rest of the semester either!) No homework tonight—journals due on Friday, but that’s it.

I’m reading a really interesting book named I Am Scout: The Biography of Harper Lee by Charles J. Shields.  I’m learning a lot about Harper Lee that I did not know. It’s reawakened my interest in Monroeville, Alabama…and the small town personality…

What are you reading on your own just for fun?

Tuesday

So tomorrow we have the test on vocabulary units 1-3.  After this test, from now on, vocab tests will be divided up by units.  For example, unit 4 test, unit 5 test, etc.  I think it will make it easier for you.

Today in class (in most classes) we reviewed vocabulary using index cards and playing “find your match” using the cards.

We also read a little bit in Act 2, Romeo and Juliet. Our calendar says that we will have a test on Act 2 on Friday, but I’m not sure if this will be feasible.  I’ll get back to you on this asap.

In the vocabulary book, there was a sentence about Frank Lloyd Wright and the house he designed called “Fallingwater.”  The picture you see in this post is that house and there’s more information about it here. (Some of you were curious about this.)fallingwater(1)

Homework is to write a short story using as many of the vocabulary words as possible. Underline or highlight the word as you use it.  Also, complete the section marked Unit 1-3 Review in the vocabulary book. We’ll review on Monday.

Today in class we took the Act I Romeo and Juliet test, turned in homework (questions after Act I on page 721), turned in folders for folder check 2, and did vocabulary work.

The vocab test is tough, so please study!!!

Creative Kids!

My students wowed me with their TKAM projects. They had many choices when it came to what they wanted to do. Trent, above, made a Power Point.  Zach H. made a 3D map of Maycomb. Others made newspapers that detailed the events of the novel, CDs that had songs picked for the big moments in the novel, collages, poems, puppet shows…(as seen in previous posts), etc.  Of course, in addition to projects, students also wrote a five paragraph essay on To Kill a Mockingbird, using the MLA’s way of citing quotations from the novel. (The PEE Method—-also known as POINT (Make a point), give an Example, and Explain the significance of the quotation.)
