Today we had another grad. exam practice test—-social studies. After practice tests, we met for fourth period, first period, second period, and third period. We went over Making Meanings and they got their Great Expectations Essay Topics if they didn’t get it earlier. (Some classes have met more than others because of the schedule.) They had time in class to get started on the rough draft of their essay.
Friday—bring something to read when you are done with your work for the day.

is the sound of about 160 students shouting and breathing a sigh of relief. We finished Great Expectations today. 🙂 Notes have been given, worksheets handed out and done (one of them) in class. The other one, Making Meanings, is to be done on their own time. They have to write one paragraph of a new ending for Great Expectations and put it in their folder as #6.

So glad tomorrow is the first of March! Bring on Spring Break!
Today was the beginning of practice tests for the grad exam for ninth graders. I only got to meet with my fourth, second, and third period classes today because of the special schedule. We reviewed the weekend’s chapters, took notes, read the last chapter of the book, discussed it, completed the worksheet “Reading Strategies” and they got the assignments for “Making Meanings” and to write a one paragraph new ending to the novel. The classes I didn’t meet up with today will do this tomorrow, on Tuesday.

We read chapter 56 and half of 57 in class. Finish 57 and read 58. Let’s save the very last chapter of Great Expectations for class. I can’t wait to hear what you think about the ending.

Group pic is of all the public forum debaters. I was so proud of each and every one. They debated sooo many schools on the Wikileaks issue and if Wikileaks is a threat to the United States’ national security. The team that did the best at this tournament was Kane A and Jose C. Kane and Jose debated their way into the Novice Quarterfinals and won a medal!!! Kane also won an individual award; he won sixth place in speaker points, which means the judges loved his speaking voice, his logic, and delivery. Great job!!! I was also proud of Eli and Chris, who made their public forum debate debut.
