Shelby County Education Association Scholarships

Scholarships are available for BOTH high school seniors and for current members taking college courses.

Applications due March 31st.

This $1,000 scholarship is available to a senior graduating in May 2020, from an Alabama public high school.  The applicant’s custodial parent, guardian, step parent, or grandparent must be an active SCEA member (teacher, counselor or administrator) in good standing.

This $1,000 scholarship is available to active members in good standing of the Shelby County Education Association who are returning to school to further their education in an education-related field.

NAIFA Alabama Scholarship

Awards of  $1,000 will be given to multiple graduating high school seniors across Alabama. Students should demonstrate exceptional academic performance and/or significant financial need.

The following eligibility requirements must be me to qualify.

Applicant must be:

A resident of the State of Alabama

A graduating senior from a high school in Alabama

Accepted into an accredited college or university

GPA must be 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale

Application package or online submission must be received no later than March 16, 2020 to be considered.

Alabama Center for Architecture Scholarship Program 2020-2021

Eligibility: The Alabama Center for Architecture awards scholarships to eligible deserving students in the following categories:

1. High school students entering freshman year of an accredited architecture program

2. College students entering the first year of an accredited architecture program (i.e. transferring from a junior or technical college program, or enrolling in an architecture program commensing after the freshman year)

3. Undegraduate and post-graduate students continuing in an accredited B. Arch or M Arch program

4. Post-graduate students entering the first year of an accredited M Arch program

All eligible programs must be accredited by the National Architectural Accreditation Board. Students must be permanent residents within Alabama boundaries and enrolled full-time for the complete 2020-2021 academic year. Past recipients of an ACFA Scholarship are welcome to apply.

Procedure: Completed applications (including all required submissions) must be postmarked no later than February 28, 2020.

Evaluation: Awards will be based on academic performance, graphic ability, financial need, and overall interest in the profession of architecture.

‘Girls Can’ Construction Camp

This year’s camp is scheduled for June 8th-12th from 8:30am to 3:00pm each day and will be held at the Career Technical Educational Center in Columbiana. This is a one-of-a-kind learning experience and is designed to be challenging, yet fun! 

Students interested should fill out an application—link is below.

Deadline for applications is April 17th.   Completed applications should be turned in the guidance office.

Additional information, permission forms, and a week-at-a-glance schedule will be sent to accepted girls prior to the beginning of camp.

Fast-Track Programs at Jefferson State Community College

The Center for Workforce Education at Jefferson State Community College delivers fast-track skills training designed to quickly train individuals or immediate employment. Jeff State’s full portfolio of non-credit training covers healthcare, IT, manufacturing, craft training, and business sectors and is ever-evolving to accommodate the needs of employers in the state of Alabama. Their shortest training is 6 weeks and our longest training is one year.

CACC ACT Boot Camp

Central Alabama Community College will be hosting an ACT testing boot camp Monday, February 3rd through Thursday, February 6th, from 6:00-8:30 P.M. at the Talladega Center. The boot camp will be taught by experienced and successful ACT tutor, Kim Norton. The cost is $215 per student.

The Road to College

Homewood Public Library, Tuesday, August 27th, at 6 p.m.

The Homewood Public Library is excited to announce the return that The Road to College on Tuesday, August 27, at 6 p.m. This program is geared towards helping parents and teens who are overwhelmed with the college application process. Jordan Crenshaw, an admissions counselor from UAB, will present on some key topics that will help teens and their parents get on the right track for college. How many times to take the ACT? How to apply for financial aid? What do you do after you have applied to college? These stressful questions, plus more, can all be answered at the Road to College!

 After the presentations, families will have the opportunity to visit representatives from various institutions. Over 15 colleges and universities will be represented, including Alabama/UA Early College, Auburn, UAB, UAH, Troy, Jeff State Community College, Samford University, Birmingham-Southern College, Montevallo, and more!

Alfa Youth Leadership Conference

September 30th-Oct. 1st. at Alabama 4-H Center in Columbiana.

Students must be in their freshman or sophomore year of high school in fall 2019.

After the free, two-day training at the Alabama 4-H Center in Columbiana, students should be prepared to

* Identify their potential to better serve communities

* Step into leadership roles

The conference includes:

* High-energy workshops

* Relationship-building with leaders across the state
