Jefferson State Community College Scholarships

The April 1 application deadline for the 2024-2025 Presidential Honors scholarship is approaching.  The criteria for the Presidential Honors scholarship along with the Academic Excellence and Dual Enrollment Achievement scholarships are listed below.

Tuition and fees scholarship for up to 15 credit hours a semester for up to 6 semesters
The applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • Have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher at the end of their 1st semester senior year
  • Have a 22 or higher composite ACT score. ACT scores must be on file with Admissions by the April  1st deadline
  • Applied for admission to Jefferson State for Fall 2024 prior to submitting the scholarship application
  • Submit a copy of their high school transcripts showing their grades and GPA after the first semester of their senior year

Awarded to all students who meet the criteria and apply by June 1, 2024, as long as scholarship funds are available.Deadline: June 1, 2024

  • Students with a composite ACT score of 25 or higher will receive a scholarship for 9 credit hours per semester for up to 6 semesters.
  • Students with a composite ACT score of 22-24 will receive a scholarship for 6 credit hours per semester for up to 6 semesters.

The applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • Have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher at the end of their 1st semester of senior year

  • Have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher at the end of their 1st semester of senior year, including JSCC coursework
  • Have 20 or higher composite ACT score. ACT scores must be on file with Admissions by the June 1st deadline
  • Successfully completed 6 or more credit hours in the JSCC Dual Enrollment program
  • Applied for admission to Jefferson State for Fall 2024 prior to submitting the scholarship application
  • Submit a copy of their high school transcripts showing their grades and GPA after the first semester of their senior year

Marylou Kelley Scholarship

Again this year the Wilsonville United Methodist Women are searching for applicants for the Marylou Kelley Scholarship. The postmarked deadline for the completed application, including all required components, is April 15.  For the application to be accepted and considered, it MUST include ALL required components AND be MAILED to the address on the application with a postmark no later than April 15.

Alabama Girls State Registration

Alabama Girls State is a week-long, fun-filled, hands-on learning opportunity for some of the best and brightest young women in the State of Alabama. Sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary (ALA), Alabama Girls State is a premier youth leadership program which offers a one-of-a-kind experience to its delegates. 
ALA Alabama Girls State will be held June 2-7, 2024, on the campus of Troy University, Troy, AL. It is an honor and privilege to pursue the ALA mission: “For God and country, we advocate for veterans, educate our citizens, mentor youth, and promote patriotism, good citizenship, peace and security.” 

Eligibility Requirements

  • Be a junior in high school to be selected.
  • Have an interest in government and current events, high moral character, strong leadership ability and above average scholastic standing.
  • Not have participated in a previous session of Girls State.
  • Be able to participate in ALL activities from Sunday, June 2- Friday, June 7.

Sumner Flight Scholarship 

The Birmingham Aero Club Air Safety Foundation via the Thurston W. Sumner Flight Education Program will be funding multiple scholarships in 2024 for individuals pursuing aviation-related goals. These goals may include initial flight training, advanced ratings, Aircraft Maintenance Technician certification, and other aviation-related education. This scholarship opportunity is available to students of all ages. Financial need and prior aviation experience are not required. 

Applications will be accepted from February 1, 2024 through April 30, 2024. Applicants will be notified of the disposition of their application by May 31. Funds will be disbursed during the Birmingham Aero Club’s June 20th meeting.

NAACP|MLP Scholarship

Submission deadline: Sunday, February 25, 2024.

Eligibility: Graduating high school seniors in Shelby County public schools who have demonstrated a commitment to advancing racial justice and the potential to be outstanding community leaders.

  • Full High School Transcript (Unofficial or Official) 
  • Letter of Recommendation (at least one and a maximum of three)
  • Essay (1,000 words maximum that answers all three of the topics below)
  • Your experience of homelessness and how it relates to your life and education. 
  • Your commitment to education during your experience of homelessness.
  • Your desire to attend college

Psi Xi Omega Scholarship

The Psi Xi Omega Chapter presents two $2500 scholarships and two $500 book stipends offered to an African American senior with at least a 2.75 unweighted G.P.A. who attends a high school located in Shelby County, Alabama by March 13, 2024.
