Distinguished Young Women of Shelby County is a part of a nationwide program which awards scholarships for young women’s achievement. Throughout your participation you will be encouraged to reach your goals, continue your education and be confident in your opinions. HBCU Scholarship

To qualify, the applicant must:

  • Be an African-American male or female graduating in 2022 from a high school in Shelby County, AL
  • Possess a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale
  • Be attending an accredited 4-year Historically Black College or University in the fall of 2022 

All completed applications must include:

  • An official high school transcript 
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • An essay (typed, double-spaced, 12pt. font Times New Roman)

Shelby County Education Association College Scholarship

Each year the SCEA presents $1000 scholarship to graduating high school seniors who are children or grandchildren of SCEA members.  

All guidelines must be followed correctly for the application to be accepted.  The completed packet of materials must be received by Monday, March 14, 2022, at 3:30 pm.  No electronic applications are accepted.

These scholarships are only for active members of the Shelby County Education Association.  (Support personnel should contact Kenneth Dukes and/or Sharon Martin.) Please let Erica Davis, at Vincent Middle High School, know if you have any questions.

Students attending The University of North Alabama – LEAD Scholarship

The 2022 LEAD Scholarship of $10,000 per year for a period of 4 years (totaling $40,000) is provided to one graduating senior from our LEAD educational partner districts. The partner district develops the criteria for selection of the student. The student must enroll at UNA during the fall semester following their high school graduation.
The student must maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 and enroll in a minimum of 27 credit hours per academic year to remain eligible for the scholarship. This scholarship is not stackable with any other university scholarship.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Scholarship

Applicants must be a high school senior and attend high school in the
Birmingham Metropolitan Area or one of the following counties: Bibb,
Blount, Chilton, Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair and Walker. 

Eligibility Requirements: 
 • Minimum 2.5 GPA 
 • Minimum 18 ACT score 
 • Community Involvement 
 • Communication Skills 
 • Leadership Qualities
