Scholarship Details:
Who: Shelby County Seniors & alumni attending college Fall Semester, 2019
What: A $1000 scholarship will be awarded to the SCHS senior or alumni who demonstrates an
aptitude for college and a financial need. The funds will be paid directly to the school for the
student’s Fall semester, 2019, and can be used for tuition, books, fees, etc.
When: Complete the application & submit along with 2 letters of recommendation from
teachers, coaches, mentors and/or employers by May 3, 2019. Notification of the award will be
made at the Senior Awards ceremony on Tuesday, May 14, 2019.

Student Leadership Council for Ronald McDonald House Charities

Attention rising juniors and seniors!! This opportunity is to gain leadership skills and also experience the fulfillment that comes from sharing of one’s time and talents with others.

The Student Leadership Council is a group of young men and women committed to serving the families residing at Ronald McDonald House Charities of Alabama (RMHCA).

Applications and materials must be turned in by May 1, 2019 to be considered. Attendance at an Student Leadership Council (SLC) on May 1st or May 8th at 5pm is mandatory in order to sign up for an interview slot. Orientation is held at the Ronald McDonald House.

https://www.rmhca.org/ . Students should select “Student Leadership Council” under the “Volunteer” tab. After completing the application, students will need to have two recommendation letters sent to Alice Taylor, Volunteer Coordinator, at alice.taylor@rmhca.org

Families served at the Ronald McDonald House in Birmingham enjoy a cozy bedroom plus meals and activities provided by volunteers, laundry facilities, living room space, internet and more. The House can serve up to 73 families at one time.

$500 Cathy Barker STEM Scholarship

To qualify, applicants must be a high school senior and must be planning to attend a college, university, or technical school in Alabama.  Student must be planning to study Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math.  Science may include such courses of Nursing, Physical Education, Physical Therapy, and Pharmacy.    Attendance at an online institution is not eligible for this scholarship.

Charles “Chuck” Poland Education Scholarship

Charles “Chuck” Poland Education Scholarship

$1,000 education scholarship awarded to two deserving public school students whose parent or guardian is an active pupil transportation employee for the past three years.  A student qualifies by graduating from a public high school and then attending a post-secondary education institution in 2019-2020.  Eligible students must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA and are selected based on their leadership, citizenship, and service.  The $1,000 scholarship can be used for any part of the student’s 2019-2020 school year tuition, books, or fees.

Alabama Boys State–Junior Boys

The 82nd Annual Alabama Boys State                                                                            Where:  The University of Alabama                                                                                When:  May 26th-June 1st, 2019

Alabama Boys State is one of the highest honors granted to Alabama students. Students from across the state are chosen based on their demonstration of leadership, hard work, strong morals, and motivation in school and community activities. Boys State week is a full and active week held on the campus of The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

At Boys State, student delegates will find the opportunity to build new friendships, participate in a mock government, and hear from and meet a diverse array of Alabama leaders such as Congressmen, state elected officials, business leaders, civic leaders, and others. Delegates will have the opportunity to join interest groups that focus on their individual areas of interest such as law school, fire college, law enforcement academy, aerospace academy, lobbyists, city government, county government, constitutional convention, engineer/computer academy, and environmental interest group. Delegates will also have activity time during which they can participate in recreational activities such as basketball, volleyball, softball, soccer, academic bowl, etc.

The American Legion believes there is no better way to assure the survival of our republic than to train our young people in the ideals and objectives of American government. By teaching youth to understand and appreciate the basic principles involved in the successful management of a democratic society, we can keep America strong and ensure freedom for future generations. These are the distinguished, long-standing objectives of American Legion Boys States.

Wilsonville Civitan Club Revis Memorial Scholarship

The Wilsonville Civitan Club is proud to be able to offer this scholarship as a
lasting memorial to former club members who made a substantial impact on
their community, including the charter members, as well as the scholarship’s
namesake. This award, in the amount of $1,000, will be presented to the most
deserving individual from the applicant pool, taking into account his/her civic
work and other contributions to the community. A committee within the
Wilsonville Civitan Club will review all applications and unanimously select the recipient. The award will be presented to the recipient at his/her school’s
designated ceremony or other designated time.

Requirements:
•all applications must be received by May 10, 2019; the preferred
method to return the completed application is via email to
aj15phelps@gmail.com; you may also return the application to your
school’s scholarships coordinator to be picked up by a Wilsonville Civitan
Club representative
• graduating Shelby County High School, Cornerstone Christian
School, Vincent Middle/High, or Shelby County College and Career Center seniors entering a university or college that is accredited by recognized accreditation agencies for the upcoming fall college term
• recipient must register and maintain status as a full time student at
the university/college, maintain a minimum “C” average, and maintain
significant progress towards completing a degree within 4 years
• these funds are for tuition, room, board, or books
• funds will be forwarded to the college/university upon receipt of
confirmation of enrollment and address of the institution’s financial aid
office either by mail or email.
