Jefferson State Academic Scholarship

JSCC will award 35 full tuition scholarships to outstanding high school students enrolling in Fall 2017. These are one year scholarships which may be renewed for one additional year provided the recipient meets the criteria. These students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 at the end of their first semester of the senior year and a minimum of 22 on the ACT. The student must be a U.S. citizen or provide proper documented residency status.

Students may go online at www.jeffersonstate.edu to apply for admission and fill out the new 2017-18 scholarship application. One recommendation and a two page typed essay stating why the student wants to attend Jefferson State should be attached to the application when submitted.

All scholarship requirements must be on file by March 1, 2017.

American Association of Blacks in Energy Scholarship

The Birmingham Chapter of the American Association of Blacks in Energy has begun its scholarship program for 2017. AAE is an organization of energy professionals dedicated to ensure the input of African Americans and other minorities into the discussion and development of energy policies, regulations, R&D technologies and environmental issues. One of the purposes of AABE is to encourage minority students to pursue careers in energy-related fields and to provide scholarships for such students.

The AABE Birmingham Scholarship Program consists of 2 scholarship opportunities:

The Premier Award of $5000 is awarded to a high school senior with a 3.0 or above GPA who demonstrates superior achievement and community involvement.

The Principal’s Choice Award of $750 is awarded to a striving C-student who exhibits potential for success in college. Applicants for this award must be recommended by their attending school’s principal or assistant principal in the form of a letter submitted to AABE.

Applications can be picked up in the counselor’s office and must be received by AABE no later than February 3, 2017.

 

The Marylou Kelley Scholarship

The Wilsonville United Methodist Women offer a $500 scholarship in memory of Marylou Kelley.

Applications can be picked up in the counseling office and require the following documents in addition to the completed application:

an official high school transcript

ACT score

proof of acceptance into college, university, or technical school

2 letters of recommendation. These cannot be written by a relative.

Completed applications and required documentation must be submitted before April 15, 2017.

Cyberbullying for Teens Scholarship

In an effort to the cause of preventing cyberbullying, Parentinn has created the “Cyberbullying Prevention for Teens Scholarship” for High school students.

Deadline: Feb 28th, 2017 – This scholarship is run annually.
Requirements:
– Applicant must be high school student.
– Applicant must write an article of 600-1000 words on the topic “Why is it important to stop cyberbullying?”

Alabama CollegeCounts Scholarship

The Alabama CollegeCounts Scholarship application opened on December 1 and closes March 1, 2017. This scholarship is for Alabama students who have made a 26 or below on their ACT and have at least a 2.75 GPA. FAFSA is required to determine the student’s eligibility for the scholarship, which awards $4,000 and $2,000 during a student’s freshman year at a four-year or two-year school, respectively.

FAFSA Completion Day

Shelby County High School will host a FAFSA completion day on Monday, October 31st, for any SCHS student or parent who would like help completing the FAFSA.

Location: Computer lab

Time: 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Before you apply, you should do the following:

Print and complete the FAFSA on the Web Worksheet (optional). • Apply for an FSA ID if you do not have one. • Parents of dependent students should apply for an FSA ID if they do not have one. • Plan how to sign your FAFSA (using an FSA ID or a signature page). • Note eligibility requirements. • Note important deadline dates.

Gather needed documents, which include:

Social Security card • Driver’s license (if any) • Permanent Resident Card, Resident Alien Card, or Alien Registration Receipt Card (if applicable) • W-2 forms and other 2015 records of money earned • 2015 income tax return (see the instructions on the FAFSA if the tax return has not been completed) 19 • Records of child support paid • Records of taxable earnings from Federal Work-Study or other need-based work programs • Records of student grant, scholarship and fellowship aid, including AmeriCorps awards, that was included in your (or your parents’) adjusted gross income (AGI) • Current stock, bond, and other investment records • Current business and farm records • Current bank statements
