Herb Hanes – Bill Sparks Scholarship

The Ensley High School Alumni Association is receiving applications for the Herb Hanes – Bill Sparks Scholarship. The $2,500 scholarship will be paid to any Alabama college or university of the winner’s choice to be used for tuition and books. To qualify for the scholarship, the senior applicant must have:

  1. Participated in varsity athletics or in an athletic related activity (cheerleader, trainer, dance team, etc.) at a Jefferson or Shelby County high school.
  2. Been accepted into a 4 year Alabama college or university.
  3. Completed all required forms.

The deadline for receiving applications is April 20, 2016.

The American Foreign Service Association scholarship

The American Foreign Service Association, in partnership with the United States Institute of Peace, is accepting entries for the AFSA 2016 National High School Essay Contest. The submission deadline is March 15, 2016.

The grand-prize winner will receive a $2,500 cash prize, an all-expense paid two-day trip to Washington, D.C., to meet the Secretary of State and tour the United States Institute of Peace, and a full scholarship for a Semester at Sea upon the student’s enrollment at an accredited university. The runner-up will receive a $1,250 cash prize and a full scholarship to participate in the International Diplomacy Program of the National Student Leadership Conference, held in Washington, D.C., and New York annually.
