Herb Hanes – Bill Sparks Scholarship

Scholarship amount is $2,500 and will be paid to any Alabama college or university of the winner’s choice to be used for tuition and books.

To qualify for the Hanes-Sparks Scholarship, the graduating senior applicant must have:

  • Participated in varsity athletics or in an athletic related activity (cheerleader, trainer, dance, team, etc.) at a Jefferson or Shelby County, Alabama High School
  • Been accepted into a four-year Alabama college or university.
  • Completed ALL required forms.

Jefferson State Community College Academic Scholarship

The 2020-2021 High School Academic Scholarship applications are now available at http://www.jeffersonstate.edu/financial-aid/scholarships/

Scholarships are eligible for renewal for one additional year should the student earn a total of 24 credit hours and maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA at the completion of the Spring 2021 semester.

To be eligible to apply students must have:

  • a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater at the end of the first semester of their senior year of high school
  • an ACT score of 22 or higher
  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency Status
  • Completed an Admissions Application to Jefferson State

The deadline for submission is no later than March 1, 2020.

All scholarship recipients will be required to complete the FAFSA.

Fast-Track Programs at Jefferson State Community College

The Center for Workforce Education at Jefferson State Community College delivers fast-track skills training designed to quickly train individuals or immediate employment. Jeff State’s full portfolio of non-credit training covers healthcare, IT, manufacturing, craft training, and business sectors and is ever-evolving to accommodate the needs of employers in the state of Alabama. Their shortest training is 6 weeks and our longest training is one year.

AABE Scholarship

The Birmingham Chapter of the American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE) is now accepting applications for its 2020 scholarship program. AABE is an organization of energy professionals dedicated to including African Americans and other minorities in the discussion and development of energy policies, regulations, R&D technologies and environmental issues. One of the purposes of AABE is to encourage minority students to pursue careers in energy-related fields and to provide scholarships for such students.

The AABE Birmingham Scholarship Program offers a Premier Award of $5,000, which is awarded to a high school senior with a GPA of 3.0 or better, who demonstrates superior achievement and community involvement. For consideration, students should follow this link  to our website and submit an online application.

AABE awards scholarships based on several traditional and non-traditional criteria. Students applying for the Birmingham Chapter’s Premier Award may be selected to also compete as a candidate for the National Scholarship process; no further information will be needed.  The winners of National awards will be contacted by the AABE National Office.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible for this scholarship:

  • Be a high school senior or first-time college freshman beginning in fall 2020
  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Be an Alabama resident
  • Planning to enroll in an Alabama eligible educational institution in fall 2020
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.75
  • Have an ACT score of 26 or below
    (applicants attending a two-year school will not be required to submit ACT scores)

Award Details

Awards of $4,000 for four-year college enrollees and $2,000 for two-year college enrollees. Award is one-time, non-renewable and granted on a semester basis in the first academic year.

College Counts Scholarship Program-Alabama

American Society of Civil Engineers Scholarship

The Birmingham Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers is offering a scholarship to high school seniors who attend a civil engineering program at a university or college in Alabama that has been accredited by the Accreditation Board fro Engineering and Technology-Engineering Accreditation Commission.

The scholarship application deadline is March 31, 2020.

CACC ACT Boot Camp

Central Alabama Community College will be hosting an ACT testing boot camp Monday, February 3rd through Thursday, February 6th, from 6:00-8:30 P.M. at the Talladega Center. The boot camp will be taught by experienced and successful ACT tutor, Kim Norton. The cost is $215 per student.

Auburn University’s Engineering Day

AU E-Day is scheduled for Friday, February 28, 2020 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

E-Day is an excellent opportunity for 9th – 12th graders to explore AU’s wide range of engineering disciplines. Students can view exhibits, talk with faculty and departmental representatives, and meet with current students who know first-hand what it is like to study engineering.

The University of Alabama Alabama Advantage Scholarship

New Need-Based Scholarship Eliminates
Tuition Costs for Qualifying Students

The NEW Alabama Advantage Scholarship ensures fully covered tuition costs for promising Alabama residents.

Students must be admitted to The University of Alabama unconditionally before December 15 and be full Pell Grant eligible. The Alabama Advantage Scholarship covers all remaining in-state tuition costs after federal/state grant funding.

To take advantage of this opportunity, students can apply to UA now, submit their official high school transcript and test scores, and submit a FAFSA application ASAP. Students will be awarded the Alabama Advantage Scholarship automatically should they qualify!
