Alabama College Application Campain Week

  • Free Application Week – During the week of November 4-8, 2019 over 50 colleges and universities will waive the admissions application fee. See attachment below for list of participating schools.
  • FAFSA Completion Day – Seniors will have the opportunity to complete their FAFSA and apply for college in the SCHS computer lab on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at 8:45 A.M. – 9:35 A.M. and 11:27 P.M. – 12:38 P.M.
  • Gathering Documents You will need several important documents and pieces of information to complete the FAFSA
    • Student’s Social Security Number or Alien Registration Number
    • Dates of Birth for student and parents/guardians
    • Parent’s Social Security Number (if student is dependent)
    • Prior-Prior Year Tax Returns
    • Records of untaxed income
    • Benefits like Social Security, Disability, SNAP, TANF, etc.
    • Information on cash, savings and checking account balances, real estate assets (not including home)
  • Internet Resources:
    • StudentAid.gov – site for students and parents. It provides detailed information about the FAFSA, the FSA ID, the IRS Data Retrieval Tool, student dependency status, reporting parent information, and what happens after the FAFSA is submitted. Federal Student Aid http://studentaid.ed.gov/

BLSA Thomas E. Huey, Jr. Memorial Scholarship

Thomas E. Huey, Jr. Memorial Scholarship is awarded based on 50% financial need; 40% GPA; 10% achievements and accomplishments.

Amount – $1,000

Jacksonville State Preview Day

Another exciting Preview Day is just around the corner for Future Gamecocks!

JSU will be hosting a second Fall Preview Day on October 5th! Preview Day is an open-house event where students can connect with faculty and staff, take a campus tour with student leaders, see residence halls and the state-of-the-art Recreation and Fitness Center, and so much more! Preview Day is a FREE event and attendees receive tickets to the 6pm JSU football game that night!

A few more exciting notes:

  • Bus tours and walking tours will be available!
  • Admissions and Financial Aid Sessions and tours will be available in Spanish!
  • A lucky Preview Day attendee will win a $500 JSU scholarship!

ACT Prep Camp hosted by the University of Montevallo

The University of Montevallo will be hosting an ACT Prep Camp on October 5 from 8:30am-4:30pm. The cost is only $110 and students who receive free/reduced lunch can receive a 20% discount.

The ACT Prep Course covers all ACT test subjects with in-class practice testing. Each participant will receive a copy of the official ACT Test Prep book, a math review card and other goodies. Lunch and a snack are provided with registration.

University of Montevallo Scholarships

Academic scholarships are awarded based on the student’s superscored ACT or SAT and high school GPA. Entering freshmen must submit an application for admission to the University along with an official high school transcript and ACT or SAT scores by the February 1 priority deadline for consideration. After the priority date, scholarships are awarded on a funds available basis.

Requirements for first tier academic scholarships are changing from a 23 superscore to a 21 superscore!

Smith Scholarship

The Smith Scholarship Foundation will begin accepting on-line Applications
on October 1, 2019 for the Smith Scholarship Program. The Smith
Scholarship Foundation Program is an Accountability Scholarship Program
providing assistance to High School Seniors who have “given back” to their
community through volunteer activities or by caring for family while
overcoming financial and personal challenges.

The SSF Programs provide up to $15,000 a year in financial assistance plus
opportunities for study abroad, professional training through its Internship
Program as well as valuable assistance from Mentors who counsel and
assist students with academic, personal and professional obstacles. All
assistance is subject to strict compliance with SSF Guidelines. SSF is a last
dollar supplemental scholarship.
