Thursday, Nov. 4

So we read Act I, scene one in Romeo and Juliet today.  Be sure you are keeping your new folder in order (should have three things in there now).

Finish your coat of arms for Capulets, Montagues, or the others.

See you tomorrow!  You can leave the vocab books in lockers until next week. We are moving very slowly with that vocab, in case you haven’t noticed.

Well, I missed a day. That’s what you get when you have bronchitis. Which one of you gave me that? 🙂 Remind me to clean desks with the Clorox Wipes tomorrow.

Today we started reading information about Shakespeare, did some vocab for Act I, and everyone was assigned a part (almost everyone).  Tomorrow we start reading Romeo and Juliet! Yay!

Here’s the trailer for Romeo and Juliet—from 1968!  The actress that plays Juliet—-her daughter is on The Secret Life of the American Teenager.

Monday, November 1

wintergirlsCouple of things:

1. No homework—just work on that TKAM project that I moved to next Monday, Nov. 8th.  No projects will be taken late since you’ve had so much extra time.

2. Here is the link to the obituary for the woman who played Mayella. Wonderful actress. She died last October.

3. In my personal time, I just finished reading Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson. Here is a little summary. I recommend it. Very disturbing, but gives insight on why people may have eating and cutting disorders.  I just started reading The Hunger Games, since so many of you have read it. Must be good, huh?

4. Here’s Mary Badham, the actress who played Scout.scoutnow Here is an interesting article about her.

Writing Essays…

Today we started writing our To Kill a Mockingbird Essays.    They were instructed to take their rough drafts home and complete the drafts at home.  Tomorrow we will proof read their drafts and write a better version. Thursday and Friday we will be in the computer lab typing it up.

I took pity on my students and moved To Kill a Mockingbird Project to Monday, November 8th.  That will give them more time and also allow them to enjoy their Halloween weekend without worrying about it.

TKAM Domino Review…

IMG00628

Tried a new review type game for TKAM last week. Only tried it with second period though.  Turns out it has some kinks in it…oh well! Not every idea is a winner! 🙂  Kudos to my second period kids for trying it out for me!
