OLJ Scholarship
This Memorial Scholarship is established to honor the memory of our beloved mother Mrs. Ora Jones who passed away on March 30, 2011 from Congestive Heart Disease. Throughout her life she significantly impacted and influenced countless individuals by rendering sacrificial service. This scholarship is established with the following goal in mind: to help educate a child in order to motivate them to live out the principles modeled by our mother so that they can demonstrate a life of service by giving back and helping someone else along life’s journey.
Qualifications:
- Must have an acceptance letter to either a 2 yr. or 4 yr. college or university.
- Must have at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale.
- Must submit a 1000 word essay which depicts the importance of the scholarship and describe how they will use
their education to give back to the community. - Must provide a cover letter with the following:
a. Full name
b. Address, phone number, email, and name of high school you will graduate from
c. A brief biography about yourself
Deadline for entry: Friday, April 23, 2021
Scholarships awarded: $500-1,000 each

Shelby County Education Association Scholarships
Each year the SCEA presents $1000 scholarships in two categories: student and member. The student scholarships are awarded to graduating high school seniors who are children or grandchildren of SCEA members. The member scholarship is awarded to an SCEA member who is furthering his or her career by seeking an advanced college degree in an education-related field.
Attached are the applications for these two scholarships. All guidelines must be followed correctly for the application to be accepted. The completed packet of materials must be received by Friday, April 2nd at 3:00 pm. No electronic applications are accepted.
These scholarships are only for active members of the Shelby County Education Association. (Support personnel should contact Kenneth Dukes and/or Sharon Martin.) Please let Stephanie Triplett, at Oak Mountain High School, know if you have any questions. Â

Mary Lou Kelley Scholarship
The Wilsonville United Methodist Women are once again accepting applications for the Marylou Kelley Scholarship.
Your application MUST INCLUDE the following attachments:
1. Your current RESUMÉ, which must include any awards, honors, recognitions you have received, as well as all extra-curricular activities (school, community, civic, church) you have participated in, and volunteer experience during your high school years.
2. An original ESSAY describing your college and career goals, and how this scholarship will help you to attain these goals. You must include information about your family circumstances that could hinder your ability to pay for a college education, and why you feel you should receive this scholarship award.
3. Official high school TRANSCRIPT certified by a high school official.
4. Official copy of your ACT/SAT Scores.
5. PROOF OF ACCEPTANCE into college, university, or technical school.
6. TWO LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION. Letters cannot be written by a relative.
A. One letter must be from a teacher regarding applicant’s accomplishments in his/her class.
B. One letter must be from a pastor, youth minister, youth counselor, or school counselor
regarding applicant’s attitude, ability to relate well to others, and his/her moral
character.
The completed application (page 1) and ALL attachments as listed above MUST BE MAILED in a single envelope AND MUST BE POSTMARKED no later than APRIL 15 to be considered. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS!

Alabama Governor’s School-Samford University
The 34th annual Alabama Governor’s School will be held June 13-25 at Samford University. Traditionally, the Governor’s School offers academically strong Alabama high school juniors (those who will graduate in 2022) an opportunity to participate in a short residential program of stimulating academic and extracurricular activities.
This year, the program theme will be “American Vision: World View.” Each participant will take one morning an done afternoon seminar that will focus on challenging and expanding his or her worldview. The courses include, but are not limited to, fine arts, web design, modern legal systems, research science, business, and medicine. All courses are small and designed to stimulate interaction with professors and fellow students. In addition there will be opportunities to meet business, academic, and political leaders from Alabama and beyond.

Jefferson State Community College Counselor’s Scholarships
This year, Jeff State is offering two different types of counselor’s scholarships! One is an academic scholarship and the other is a career technical scholarship. These scholarships are full tuition scholarships!
Students must meet the following criteria to be nominated by their counselor:
Academic:
– Must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA
– Must be an U.S. citizen or permanent resident status;
– Must have completed an admission application to Jefferson State for Fall 2021 semester.
– Complete a 2021-2022 FAFSA for Jefferson State. JSCC school code is 001022.
Career Technical:
– Must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA
– Must have been involved in CTE in high school
– Must be an U.S. citizen or permanent resident status;
– Must have completed an admission application to Jefferson State for Fall 2021 semester.
– Complete a 2021-2022 FAFSA for Jefferson State. JSCC school code is 001022.
Requirements for both Academic and Career Technical Scholarships:
– Typed, two-page essay by student on the topic “What are your career goals, and how will earning a college degree from JSCC help achieve those goals?”. Essay must be 12-point font, double spaced, and a minimum of 500 words in total.
– Typed resume of student activities.
– Completed student information section on the nomination form specific to the type of scholarship you are applying for, either academic or CTE (both forms attached below).
Essay and nomination form must be submitted to Mrs. Keahey NO LATER than May 3, 2021.
Mrs. Keahey will submit the nomination packet to Jeff State on recipient’s behalf.
