*There will be a Community Chess Night for students and parents on Monday, April 18th at the Montevallo High School Library from 4-6pm.  

*There will be an 8th grade parent meeting for those parents interested in helping to plan the 8th grade cookout on Monday, April 18th at 5:00pm in the MMS library.

*8th graders will be testing begin on Monday, April 18th and Tuesday, April 19thPlease make sure that your 8th grader is here at school on both of those days.

*Progress reports will go out on Wednesday, April 20th.

*Soccer will have a game at John Carroll on Monday, April 18th at 5:00pm

*The County Track Meet will be held on Monday, April 18th at Pelham HS.

*MMS is having a talent show this year.  Auditions are being held on Friday, April 22nd.  If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Banks.

*High School Basketball tryouts for current 8th grade boys will be on Monday, April 25th and Tuesday, April 26th after school until 5:30pm at the MHS gym. Students must have a current physical on file to try out.

*Middle School Boys basketball tryouts will be held Thursday, April 21st and Friday, April 22nd after school until 5:30pm at the MHS gym.  Students must have a current physical on file to try out.

*Upward Bound will have a presentation for 8th grade students on Thursday, April 28th.  If you would like for your child to participate in this great program, please make sure that they fill out the packets and return them to Ms. Fenn by May, 6th.

*7th grade students will be bringing home field trip information about a field trip to the zoo on Friday, May 6th.

*Congratulations to Evan Zou and Taylor Edwards for being recognized at the Shelby County Career and Technology Banquet.  Evan represented FBLA and Taylor represented FCCLA.

*Congratulations to Aiyana Race and Janie Gray for qualifying for state recognition for the Duke Talent Search.  They took the ACT test as 7th graders and their scores qualified them for this honor.

*The final home baseball game is tonight against West Blocton.

*6th graders going on the field trip on Friday to the Space and Rocket center in Huntsville need to be here at 6:00am.  The bus will pull out at exactly 6:15am.  Parents need to pick you up between 5:15pm and 5:45pm.  Remember that if you bring an electronic device, the school is not responsible if it is lost or damaged.

April 7, 2016 Weekly Announcements

*Please do not schedule any doctor’s appointments or out of town trips during Aspire testing.  Testing will be in the mornings only until lunchtime.  6th Grade Testing will be on Monday, April 11th and Tuesday, April 12th.  7th Grade Testing will be on April 13th, 14th, and 15th.  8th Grade testing will be on April 18th and 19th.

*Please be aware that cell phones or any device that makes noise or has the capability of photography is not allowed in the testing rooms. Any student caught with a cell phone in the testing room will have their phone confiscated and possibly sent to the state department for evidence of cheating.  The child’s test can be invalidated as well. All cell phones should be kept in the student’s lockers during testing.

*It is a current school policy that all Apple Watches or any other watches that are capable of getting on the Internet are banned from school.  Students should leave these devices at home during the school day.

*6th Graders will be attending the Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville on Friday, April 15th.  Remember that your child needs to be at the school at 6am. The bus will pull out at exactly 6:15am.  If your child brings a cell phone or other electronic device on the bus, it will be his or her responsibility to keep up with it.  The school will not be liable for lost or damaged items. You will need to pick up your child between 5:15 and 5:30 that evening.

*Attention 8th Grade Parents:  Your child is fast approaching the end of his middle school years! He or she will soon begin a new era of his or her life – high school. We are asking MMS eighth grade parents to come together and help plan a grand send off for our students. In the past, the teachers have organized an eighth grade banquet as a celebration. This year’s students are asking for a cookout rather than a banquet.  If you are willing and able to help plan this event, please meet in the school’s media center on Monday, April 18, at 5:00 pm.

*Congratulations to the Chess Team who had a successful tournament this past Saturday. MMS took first place overall. Individual medals went to Cody Curl, Jeffery Green, Evan Zou, and Grayson Fulmer.

Her Science Fair Project won the following awards at The Alabama State Science Fair at the University of Alabama at Huntsville: The Toyota Outstanding Project Award as well as   Second Place in the Math and Computer Science division. She also received a nomination

  •   for the 2016 Broadcom MASTERS (Math, Applied Science, Technology and Engineering for Rising Stars), a program of the Society for Science and the Public. This extraordinary achievement is only awarded to the top 10% of sixth, seventh, and eighth grade participants at the SSP-AFFILIATED SCIENCE FAIR

*Volleyball try-outs for 6th and 7th grade girls will begin today after school.   All girls interested in trying out must have a consent form and current physical in order to stay.

*The Cheerleaders are selling Gi Gi’s Cupcakes as a fundraiser.  The orders need to be placed today and the cupcakes will be delivered the following week.  See a MMS Cheerleader to place an order.

*The Baseball team has a game today at home against Centerville at 4pm

*Congratulations to the student of the week:  Jaxon Butterworth.  He was nominated by Mrs. Burns.  Mrs. Burns states that Jaxon demonstrated the character trait of responsibility when he quickly saw that a student had dropped a cell phone in morning drop off and he stopped the cars to keep the phone from getting run over.  The phone was returned to the student with no damage.
