Johnson to proclaim National Hispanic Heritage Week observed during the week that included Sept. 15 and Sept. 16. In 1989, it was expanded to a month-long celebration. The start date is significant because it is the anniversary of the independence of five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on Sept. 16 and Sept. 18, respectively.

Congratulations to the lady dawg’s volleyball team for coming away with 2 victories last night defeating both Jemison and Vincent in 2 straight games each.  In the 25-18 victory over Jemison Hunter Jordan led all servers with 11 out of 12 with 2 KILLS and  Maddie McConico served 10 out of 12 and 7 of those were ACES. 

In the Vincent game, Hunter Jordan led servers again with 9 out of 10 and 6 of those were ACES and Zoe Jones added 2 KILLS and a block.  Way to go girls!

• Way to go volleyball team for  defeating Isabella in two straight games last night. Hunter Jordan led the team with ten serves, and Zoe Jones added five kills to earn the victory. The team will play a trimatch against Jemison and Vincent on Monday starting at 4. Tickets will not be on GoFan, they will be $5 at the gate. Go Dawgs!

• Although the volleyball team fell short against Clanton last night, we want to congratulate them for their dominating victory over West Blocton.  In the 25-1 victory, Rosemery Hernandez served another perfect game on her birthday with 21 out of 21 serves – falling short by 1 of the school record.  Way to go!!!  The team plays at MHS today at 4.
