*African American History Spotlight for the Day: Did you know that Thurgood Marshall was the first African American Supreme Court Justice?  He was also one of the lawyers for the plaintiff Linda Brown in the famous Brown vs Board of Education Supreme Court Case.

 *Today we are on break schedule

*COTS and all other MMS Teams & Organizations such as Peer Helpers, Scholar’s Bowl Teams, Math Teams, Diamond Dolls, BETA, Archery, Tennis, Wrestling, etc will have pictures taken for the yearbook on Monday, Feb 8th in the morning.  Don’t be absent if you want to be in the pictures.  Ambassadors please wear your shirts for your picture.

Track Practice begins on Monday from 3-4:45.  You must have your forms turned into Ms. Moore before you can stay for practice.

Soccer practice has been cancelled for today.  There is a field clean up day tomorrow at the high school from 8:30-12:00.  All soccer players are expected to attend.

*The archery team must pay their $10 registration by Friday in order to compete at the Regional tournament.  If you want a t-shirt, you can pay $10 by next Friday to Coach Jett

*We are now starting to sell the Coupon Books for $20.00.  Permission slips will be sent home with your progress reports on Wednesday if you would like to sell them.  You can currently buy one from any Beta Club member.  The sale lasts until February 17th.

*Save the Date.  On Thursday, February 11th, we will be having a Mardis Gras Dance from 3-5pm. The cost will be $5.00.

There is a mandatory parent meeting for those interested in MMS cheerleading on Monday, February 22 at 5:00 PM in the media center.  Registration packets will be available for pick-up that night. Students that are interested should sign up on the sheet outside Mrs. Bishop’s door.

*There will be a Mandatory parent meeting February 12th at 6 PM in the PAC at the High School for any 8th grade girl interested in cheerleading next year.  You will pick up your packets that night.

A place for teens ages 12 to 18 is coming Monday, February 8 to the Scout Lodge next to Parnell library.  The Teen Center will be open from 3 to 7 each school day and as wanted, later on Friday nights.  The fee to join is $25 per year and for just $1 youths can get a 2-week trial membership.  Beginning March 1, a free snack and evening meal will also be provided.  A completed application including parent/guardian signature must be on file before the first day of attendance.  Youth can come and participate in a wide variety of activities or just hang out, playing ping pong, Frisbee and/or video games including Wii, PS 4, X-box-One.   The application packets are in the front office.

*Any 6th or 7th grade girl that is interested in Monday and Wednesday work-outs needs to turn in permission to Coach Jett before staying after school.  We will begin work-outs on Monday February 8th.  *There will be an informational night at Montevallo High School for all 8th graders and their parents on Tuesday, February 9th at 6pm in the Performing Arts Center.

Congratulations to the 7th and 8th Grade Scholar’s Bowl Teams.  The 7th grade took 1st place in the County Competition.  Team Members included: Will Landers, Janie Gray, Ella Alexander, Emmanuel Hernandez, Rebeca Emilano, and Jazmine Williams.  Will Landers also won 2nd place in the individual competition.  The 8th grade team placed 2nd overall at the competition.  Team members included: Grayson Fulmer, Evan Zou, Miranda Martin, and Dylan Snider.  Grayson Fulmer won 2nd place in the individual competition.  Way to go Bulldogs!
