The Week of January 23-27 Announcements

*MMS will begin a free after school tutoring program for math on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3-4 pm.  Please return permission form if you are interested in taking advantage of this program. Tutoring begins on Monday, January 30th, after school.

* Montevallo Community Chess night will be held on Tuesday, January 31st, at Montevallo Elementary School from 4-6 pm in their cafeteria. All students and community members are invited to attend.

*8th Grade Parents: There will be a parent meeting at Montevallo High School on Wednesday, February 15th, at 6:30 pm for all 8th grade students and their parents to learn about high school graduation credits, course selections, and extra-curricular activities at the high school.

*Today students received free tickets to the UM Basketball game that will be played on Monday, January 30th.  The tickets are good for the entire family to attend.

*The BETA Club (8th Grade Honor Society) Inductions will be held on Friday, February 3rd.

*Progress Reports will go home on Wednesday, February 8th.

*6th grade Scholar’s Bowl will compete at the County Tournament on Wednesday, February 8th, and 7th and 8th grade Scholar’s Bowl will compete on Friday, February 10th.

*The Montevallo Day of Pageants will be held on Saturday, February 11th.  Any girl K-12 wanting to participate must fill out the registration forms.  The forms are available in the MMS office.  Registration forms and fees are due to the MMS office by Friday, February 3rd.

*The University of Montevallo offers a Free Community Counseling Program (ages 5-adult) that is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 pm at the Wallace Center on the UM Campus.  Attached to this email is a flyer about their program.

*The Montevallo Community is sponsoring a “Sock Drive” to help needy students with new socks.  Students and community members can bring in new socks, underwear, or T Shirts for donation at MES, MMS, MHS, UM Wills Hall, and at the It’s About Time Barbershop.  MMS will have a box in the front foyer. The Sock Drive will end on January 31st.

*The University of Montevallo’s NAACP Chapter is sponsoring a “Black History Untold Heroes” program at UM on February 18th.  Any MMS or MHS student wanting to participate in this program, needs to pick up an application at MMS or use the attached application form.

*Shelby County Schools in partnership with Alabama Power are sponsoring a Girl’s Can Camp for 8th, 9th, and 10th grade girls interested in construction or engineering in June.  Applications are due by April 17th.  Any girl interested can get an application from Mrs. Fenn-Lusco at MMS or Mrs. Allen at MHS.

Congratulations to the MMS JUNA team who had their resolution on Bolivia accepted by the Mock United Nations.
