  • Last day for Soccer tryouts is today!  
  • In Honor of Hispanic Heritage month, here is a fun fact:

Add a little color to your conversation with funny Spanish phrases and idioms! When you can use a well-known phrase like these, you sound much more natural in your everyday speech.

  • Ponte las pilas – Literal translation: “Put in your batteries” but it’s like telling someone to “look alive”, “snap out of it”, or “wake up”. You say it to a person who’s daydreaming.
  • Buena onda – Literal translation: “Good wave” but This means good vibes. You can also use it to describe someone who has a positive outlook and attitude.
  • Hablando del rey de Roma – Literal translation: “Speaking of the king of Rome”. It has the same meaning as “speak of the devil” in English. You say this whenever you were just talking about someone, and then they appear.

  • Congratulations again to Amariona Davis for being chosen as our ATHLETE OF THE MONTH FOR SEPTEMBER.  Amariona plays both volleyball and basketball for the lady dawgs.  Way to go!!!

Frida the Rescue Dog is a Golden Labrador Retriever in the Mexican Navy. She was deployed in the event of natural disasters to help the rescue efforts. Frida has helped save the lives of people buried under the rubble of buildings that collapsed in the 2010 Haiti earthquake, victims of a landslide in Guatemala in 2012, after the explosion of the Pemex Tower in Mexico City in 2013, the 2016 Ecuador earthquake and the 2017 Puebla earthquake in Mexico. Reports have suggested that she has located more than 52 people.

Mexican inventor Jose Hernandez-Rebollar invented the Acceleglove, a glove that can translate sign language into speech. According to the Smithsonian,”by using sensors attached to the glove and the arm, this prototype device can currently translate the alphabet and over 300 words in American Sign Language (ASL) into both English and Spanish.

Although they are often used interchangeably, the terms Hispanic and Latino mean different things. The terms Hispanic and Latino have become synonymous with one another, but although all Latinos are Hispanic, not all Hispanics are Latino. The term Hispanic refers to any person from a Spanish-speaking country, whereas the term Latino only includes those who are from Latin America. Nowadays, his contribution helps to determine risks and is used by engineers to measure the damage that an earthquake causes to buildings.
