DAILY ANNOUNCEMENTS

*African American History Spotlight for the Day: Did you know that the first person to die in the American Revolution was a black man named Crispus Attucks.?  He was killed in the Boston Massacre and was buried with honors in the Park Street Cemetery in Boston. Today there is a memorial to him in the Boston Common.

  • Happy Birthday: No Birthday’s today. 
  • Announcements:

*If you have sold candy, all money or remaining candy needs to be turned in by today

*This Friday will be break so don’t have any tardies or silent lunches.  Progress reports will go out on Wednesday.

*We are now starting to sell the Coupon Books for $20.00.  Permission slips will be sent home with your progress reports on Wednesday if you would like to sell them.  You can currently buy one from any Beta Club member.  The sale lasts until February 17th.

*Save the Date.  On February 11th, we will be having a Mardis Gras Dance from 3-5pm. The cost will be $5.00.

*There will be a Mandatory parent meeting February 12th at 6 PM in the PAC at the High School for any 8th grade girl interested in cheerleading next year.  You will pick up your packets that night.

*Any 6th or 7th grade girl that is interested in Monday and Wednesday work-outs needs to turn in permission to Coach Jett before staying after school.  We will begin work-outs next Monday February 8th.

*Any 8th grader interested in trying out for color guard, dance line, or majorette as part of the 2016 Montevallo Marching Troubadours needs to see Mr. Lawley to receive an informational packet.  There is a mandatory parent meeting about tryouts on February 11 at 6:00 p.m. in the Montevallo High School band room

*There will be an informational night at Montevallo High School for all 8th graders and their parents on February 9th at 6pm in the Performing Arts Center.

*There is a faculty meeting after school today for all teachers in the library.

 *The Annual Heart of Dixie Pageant will be held on March 5th of this year at Jemison High School for any girl ages 1-21.  If you are interested in participating in this pageant, please pick up a form in the office or on the Heart of Dixie Facebook page.  All applications are due by February 17th.

*Congratulations to the student of the week:  Xavier Cartwell.  He was nominated by Mrs. Stallworth.   Mrs. Stallworth states that Xavier has demonstrated the character traits of compassion and service by consistently helping out other students in the classroom and for making a new student feel welcomed.

*The Montevallo Bulldog Middle School Wrestling team ended their season by competing in the McAdory JV Metro Tournament this past weekend. The team placed 4th overall out of 12 teams. The Bulldogs also brought home 5 individual medals. Jemari Harris won 1st place in the 77 lbs weight class. Avery Anfield won 2nd place in the 95 lbs weight class. Wilson Massey won 2nd place in the 140 lbs weight class. Hunter Bass won 3rd place in the 154 lbs weight class. Ariel Suarez won 1st place in the 197 lbs weight class. The season has not finished for several of the middle school wrestlers who are pulling double duty wrestling for the high school. Good luck to Bobby Fancher, Wilson Massey, Hunter Bass, Rankin Allen, and Ariel Suarez as they compete for the high school over the next few weeks. Go Bulldogs!

Congratulations to the JUNA Team.  They won the award for Outstanding Resolution at the Mock UN Meeting last Friday.  They represented the country of India.  Team Members included: Grayson Fulmer, Miranda Martin, Sarah Lowery, Will Landers, Janie Gray, Ella Alexander, and Kacey Sankey.

*Today will be COTS so we will be on activity schedule

*If you have sold candy, all money or remaining candy needs to be turned in by Monday.

*We are now starting to sell the Coupon Books for $20.00.  Permission slips will be sent home with your progress reports next week if you would like to sell them.  You can currently buy one from any Beta Club member.

*Save the Date.  On February 11th, we will be having a Valentine’s Dance from 3-5pm. The cost will be $5.00.

*Literary magazine submissions are due to Ms. Moore or your ELA teacher by today

*Thanks for all of the parents who came to our Open House this past Tuesday.  We would like to thank Lucky’s, Piggly Wiggly, and the Flower Shop in Montevallo       for their donations which helped make the evening successful.

*Please return all candy money to the office as soon as possible if your child has sold all of their candy.

*Thursday, January 28th the Central Alabama Food Bank will be at the Boys and Girls Club in Montevallo beginning at 8:30am for any family who is in need of food.

*The Montevallo Day of Pageants will be held on February 6th in the Performing Arts Center at MHS.  The registration packets are now in the office for pick up and are due on Friday, January 29th.

 

*Wish good luck to our JUNA team this week as they represent MMS at the Mock United Nations.  The MMS Team is representing the country of India.
