  • Today is the last day for tryouts for girls soccer. Boys soccer tryouts will be held on October 11th and 12th.  Dragonfly account must be completed, if you have any questions, please see Ms. Martinez or Mrs. Serrano
  • Interest Meeting for 6th Grade Scholars Bowl Team is Today October 4th from 3:30-4:00 in Ms. T Jackson’s Room.
  • Interest Meeting for Coding Club is Thursday October 6th from 3:30-4:00 in Ms. T. Jackson’s Room.  Please make sure your rides are aware that pick-up time is at 4:00.
  • In appreciation of Hispanic Heritage Month here is a fun fact:
  • How does a computer know if you are a human or not? Thanks to the CAPTCHA (Completely Automated Public Turing Test to tell Computers and Humans Apart). The system was invented by a Guatemalan professor Luis von Ahn, who is also considered the inventor of crowdsourcing. He co-founded Duolingo as well.
  • Homecoming Week is next week oct. 11th-14th, students are out on Monday October 11th!!!!

  • Thursday: Wipe Out The Wildcats, dress in beach theme attire
  • Friday: School Spirit, Dress in Orange and Blue
  • The details are also provided to faculty on our shared drive.  We encourage everyone to participate in our dress-up days.  We will have a pep-rally on Thursday, Oct 13th for teachers and students only and our school dance will be on Friday, Oct 14th.  Please provide a 5 dollar donation if you would like to attend. The attire is regular school day clothing. Snacks will be sold.

  • In appreciation of Hispanic Heritage Month here is a fun fact: One of the most reliable systems to measure the intensity of the seismic tremors was invented by Chilean Arturo Arias in 1969. Nowadays, his contribution helps to determine risks and is used by engineers to measure the damage that an earthquake causes to buildings.

  • When watching your next series, think fondly of Guillermo Gonzalez Camarena, a Mexican engineer that invented color TV. He developed the system in the 30s and applied for the patent in 1940. Camarena also invented a simplified color system that was used by NASA in 1979 to take pictures and videos of Jupiter.

  • In appreciation of Hispanic Heritage Month here is a fun fact: Dolores Huerta found her voice while serving as an organizer for the Stockton Community Service Organization. It was during this time that she met a fellow organizer, Cesar Chavez. The two bonded, and in 1962, they formed the National Farm Workers Association. Throughout her long career, Huerta has advocated for workers’ rights, women’s rights, and Latinx rights, and continues to do so to this day, at age 91. Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign slogan was taken from Huerta’s words from NFWA strikes: “Sí se puede,” which translates to “Yes we can.”

  • In appreciation of Hispanic Heritage Month here is a fun fact: Cesar Chavez is best known for his efforts to gain better working conditions for the thousands of workers who labored on farms for low wages and under severe conditions. Chavez and his United Farm Workers union battled California grape growers by holding nonviolent protests.

  • CONGRATULATIONS to both our volleyball teams on a great 2022 season.  Our 8th graders pounded West Blocton last night for the W and finished their 2 year record 16 wins and 1 loss.  Aaliyah Dubose served a perfect 13 out of 13 and Sarah Kayte Lash had 10 out of 13 with 7 ACES.  Emery Adams served 7 out of 8 with 3 KILLS, and Amariona Davis had 4 KILLS.  Way to go Lady Dawgs!!!
  • In appreciation of Hispanic Heritage Month here is a fun fact: Selena Quintanilla-Pérez is a Mexican-American, and she is considered one of the most influential Latin singers of all time. She has sold over 65 million albums, making her the best-selling female artist in Latin music history. She released an English album in 1995, which made it on the Billboard 200. She was the first Latin artist to do this. In 1997, Jennifer Lopez starred in a movie about her life and career. 
  • Students!!! We will have our first break of the year on Friday Sept 23rd.  Please ask your teachers what does break mean!!! Make sure you bring money to buy snacks. Everything will be $1 or $2.

  • Congrats to both our volleyball and football teams on their victories last night!!!
  • Our football team defeated West Blocton 35-14!! GO DAWGS!!!!
  • Our Lady Dawgs defeated Vincent.  The team was led by Rosemery Hernandez with 12 out of 13 serves with 5 of those being ACES.  Emery Adams also contributed 7 out of 9 with 4 ACES and 1 KILL.  Amariona Davis scored 5 KILLS to seal the victory.  Both the 7th grade and 8th grade teams play their last game tonight at West Blocton starting at 4:30.  
  • Let’s also wish them luck as they compete in their last game of the season tonight against West Blocton!!! Go Dawgs!!!

  • Ellen Ochao was the first Hispanic American woman astronaut to go to space. She spent nearly 1,000 hours in space during four Shuttle missions. There are 10 other Hispanic astronauts who have traveled to space.
