*8^th Grade students:  There will be a parent meeting at Montevallo High School this Thursday, February 9th (tomorrow night) at 6:30 pm for all 8^th grade students and their parents to learn about high school graduation credits, course selections, and extra-curricular activities at the high school.

*There will be a Valentine’s Dance on Friday, Feb 10^th (this Friday) during the school day for $5.00.  No concessions will be sold during the dance since it will be held in the gym. It will be a sock hop and door prizes will be given.  The Track team will be selling carnations during the dance for $2.00.

*Progress reports will go home today.

*Yearbook are now on sale for $30.00.  Be sure to reserve your copy before they run out.  You can bring a check or cash to Mrs. Harding or pay online.  Please see Mrs. Harding if you have any questions.

*Congratulations to the student of the week: Migdalia Lopez.  She was nominated by Mrs. Lewis for displaying the character trait of integrity.  She stood up for an injustice she felt was being displayed towards a group of students by another student.

*Congratulations to the Soccer Team who took fourth place out of 12 teams in the McAdory Tournament this past weekend.  Cole Dennis received 4^th place and Hunter Bass took 1^st place in the 162 weight division. Several of the 9^th grade team also placed.  Wish the middle school wrestling team luck as they compete in sectionals this Friday and Saturday.

*Soccer practice will be after school until 4 pm.

*The JUNA team needs to meet with Mrs. Guraya at the beginning of 4^th period today.

*The BETA Club induction will be held this morning at 8:15 am.  Mrs. Lewis will announce when it is time for each grade level to come to the gym. Please be on your best behavior during the ceremony.  The students being honored will attend a reception immediately following the program.

*Congratulations to Janie Gray for being selected Outstanding Delegate at the Junior United Nations Assembly ! Janie was selected as one of three outstanding delegates. She was selected from among 300 delegates competing for this award!

*Don’t forget about the free basketball game tonight at the University of Montevallo.  The free ticket you received on Friday gets your entire family into the girls and boys games beginning at 5:30pm.

*Math tutoring begins today after school in Mrs. Whitt-Wright’s room from 3-4pm.  Make sure your parents know to pick you up at 4pm.  You must have a parent permission form in order to stay.

*MMS will begin a free after school tutoring program for math on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3-4 pm.  Please return permission form if you are interested in taking advantage of this program. Tutoring begins on Monday, January 30^th, after school.

* Montevallo Community Chess night will be held on Tuesday, January 31^st, at Montevallo Elementary School from 4-6 pm in their cafeteria. All students and community members are invited to attend.

*8^th Grade Parents: There will be a parent meeting at Montevallo High School on Wednesday, February 15^th, at 6:30 pm for all 8^th grade students and their parents to learn about high school graduation credits, course selections, and extra-curricular activities at the high school.

*Today students received free tickets to the UM Basketball game that will be played on Monday, January 30^th.  The tickets are good for the entire family to attend.

*The BETA Club (8^th Grade Honor Society) Inductions will be held on Friday, February 3^rd.

*Progress Reports will go home on Wednesday, February 8^th.

*6^th grade Scholar’s Bowl will compete at the County Tournament on Wednesday, February 8^th, and 7^th and 8^th grade Scholar’s Bowl will compete on Friday, February 10^th.

*The Montevallo Day of Pageants will be held on Saturday, February 11^th.  Any girl K-12 wanting to participate must fill out the registration forms.  The forms are available in the MMS office.  Registration forms and fees are due to the MMS office by Friday, February 3^rd.

*The University of Montevallo offers a Free Community Counseling Program (ages 5-adult) that is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 pm at the Wallace Center on the UM Campus.  Attached to this email is a flyer about their program.

*The Montevallo Community is sponsoring a “Sock Drive” to help needy students with new socks.  Students and community members can bring in new socks, underwear, or T Shirts for donation at MES, MMS, MHS, UM Wills Hall, and at the It’s About Time Barbershop.  MMS will have a box in the front foyer. The Sock Drive will end on January 31^st.

*The University of Montevallo’s NAACP Chapter is sponsoring a “Black History Untold Heroes” program at UM on February 18th.  Any MMS or MHS student wanting to participate in this program, needs to pick up an application at MMS or use the attached application form.

*Shelby County Schools in partnership with Alabama Power are sponsoring a Girl’s Can Camp for 8^th, 9^th, and 10^th grade girls interested in construction or engineering in June.  Applications are due by April 17^th.  Any girl interested can get an application from Mrs. Fenn-Lusco at MMS or Mrs. Allen at MHS.
