MHS News 11/30/2015

There will be an informational meeting about an upcoming Washington D.C. trip during 7th period in the PAC (freshmen only).

Students, remember to get your forms signed for you November Community Service hours. The November service hours are due WEDNESDAY. You MUST turn in your “Give Me Five” hours for your grade to your history teacher in order for your November hours to count for prizes.

The Battle of the Books selection test will be December 9th . If you’d like to try-out for the team, be sure to finish reading the books by December 9th.

Baseball tryouts will be held this week . All paperwork must be turned in to Coach Simpson ASAP.

Winter Semi-Formal will be December 12th at Reynolds on the University of Montevallo campus from 7:00-11:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person. The money raised will go toward research for Cystic Fibrosis. Deadline to purchase tickets is Wednesday, December 9th. See Mrs. Glover for more information.

FCCLA competed in the county cook off on Friday, November 20th. Promise Holsomback won 2nd place in the dairy

category and Ashlyn Smith won 1st place in the poultry category.

Congratulations to our Boys varsity basketball team for coming in 1st place in the Cornerstone High School

Thanksgiving Classic tournament. They are now 5-0 and will travel to play Calera High School tonight starting with the boys JV team at 4:00 followed by the girls varsity @ 5, and Varsity Boys @6:30. Come out and support your DAWGS!

Basketball will have their first home game TOMORROW NIGHT against Jemison High School. The Boys JV will start at 4:30 followed by the varsity girls@6:00 and varsity boys @7:30. Come out and support your dogs.

The lunchroom will be serving the annual “Thanksgiving Meal” today. Please make plans to eat in the lunchroom.

The Boys soccer tryouts will be held today from 5-7 on the football field.

Attention Students: The Stand Up Program is hosting a talent show on Dec. 19. If you or your group are interested in performing, please see Ms. Allen for an entry packet. The deadline to apply for entering the show is Dec. 15.

Attention Students: The Shelby County College & Career Center will host a Career Expo TONIGHT from 5:30-7:00.

College and Industry representatives will be on hand to speak with students and parents. There will also be free food!

FBLA will be sponsoring a volleyball game for the March of Dimes on Friday. Cost to play is $4 and $2 to watch. They will be collecting money to play during lunch thru Friday. Tickets for admission will be sold only Friday during lunch.

*Congratulations to the Boys JV, Varsity girls and Varsity boys basketball teams for their victories in their first game this season against Jefferson Christian Academy. Theatre I will present Nevermore: An Evening with Edgar Allan Poe adapted by our own Mrs. Howard, and the Moon-light Players will perform Poe-Dunked. Come see what life would be like for Poe if he worked at Taco Bell, ate at the Waffle House, or tried to sell a movie to Hollywood producers. Please support theatre at MHS by attending this event on Tuesday, Nov. 17. Tickets will $5 at the door.

*Congrats to the Bulldogs! They defeated St. James in the first round playoffs 21-7.
Bulldogs will face Leeds next week in the 2nd round. Congrats!
*Student’s parking behind the restaurant located on the corner of Valley St., will not be allowed to park in that lot after TODAY . If you wish to park on campus you must purchase a permit for $20. Come by the main office for a packet. You will be subjected to have your auto towed by the new owner at your expense. NO students should park behind the AG Shop!
*Sophomores: Permission forms for the tour of the Shelby County College & Career Center are due to Ms. Allen TODAY…No exceptions.
