Atttention Students: It is now time to sign up for the PSAT that will be administered on Oct. 19. For Juniors, the PSAT serves as the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Program. The test is only $15 and space is limited. See Ms. Allen to sign up.
Attention Students: Do you need ACT help? If so, Sycamore Learning will be offering an ACT workshop on Oct. 1 at the Shelby County Instructional Services Center in Alabaster. See Ms. Allen or check our her blog on how to register.
Attention Seniors: Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. is sponsoring an essay contest that will award scholarships ranging from $1000- $5000. Check out Ms. Allen’s blog for the essay prompt and contest rules. Entries should be submitted to Coach Pierson by Oct. 21.
Seniors: Your FAFSA can now be completed starting in October. To learn more about this and other updates to the financial aid process, please make plans to attend a Financial Information Session at UAB on Sept. 27 and Oct. 24 at 7:00 p.m. Visit Ms. Allen’s blog for more information. Seniors: The UM Fall College Fair for Seniors will be Monday, Oct. 3. This is a great opportunity to help narrow down your college options. Permission forms for the fair will be made available in your English classes and must be returned to Ms. Allen by Wed., Sept. 28.
There will be a 10th grade homecoming committee meeting TODAY during GPS time. All sophomores interested should check in with their GPS teachers before reporting to Mrs. Gothard’s Room 114.

Homecoming Week is just a few weeks away! October 3rd – 7th. Check out the SGA posters posted in the halls this week for more information! Homecoming Shirts are on sale for $10. Please see your grade level sponsor to purchase one. Each grade will have their own shirt, in addition to a generic shirt that will be sold to the public. We will black out the Wildcats Homecoming night! Homecoming Sponsors are: 9th grade – Mrs. Brantley/ 10th grade – Mrs. Gothard 11th grade – Mrs. McCaleb/ 12th grade & generic shirts- Mrs. Pastor The Homecoming Volleyball and Dodge ball Tournaments will be on Thursday and Friday of Homecoming Week, and we need players! See your grade level Homecoming Sponsors to sign up to play – only $3 to play in each game, and both tournaments are open to guys and girls. The MHS Homecoming Dance will be held Oct. 1st from 7 to 11:30 in the school cafeteria. Adm. $10 at the door. DJ Banks and a snack buffet will be provided. Homecoming court packets are available from your history teachers. The packets & $10 registration fee is due by 3 PM on Friday, no exceptions. All candidates must have a 70% average in each class to participate.
Attention Juniors: There is still time to submit applications to take part in Youth Leadership Shelby County. YLSC is a 6 month program that engages student leaders in active, hands-on experiences. Interested students should see Ms. Allen for an application and they are due by Oct. 5.
Attention Juniors and Seniors: A representative from the Univ of Montevallo will be on campus Monday, Sept. 26 to meet with interested juniors and seniors. There will be two separate sessions during the GPS periods. Sign up in the Guidance Office.
