MHS News 9/28/2015

*Flu Mist permission forms are due by Oct. 5. Please turn in to the front office or the nurse. Flu Mist vaccines will be given on Oct. 14, 2015.
*Softball tryouts will be TODAY from 6pm to 730pm. Please see Mrs. Gothard in room 114 today if you are planning on trying out!
*School day picture orders are due to Ms. Adams, room 115, by Wed.
Picture make-up will be today. Students will be called at the appropriate time.
*Students: Ms. Allen is now registering students for the PSAT that will be administered on Oct. 14. For juniors, the PSAT serves as the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Program and could prove extremely beneficial for students who take advantage of the opportunity. Tenth grade students are encouraged to sign up as well. Space is limited and the test fee is $15. Interested students should register by Oct. 8.
*Seniors: Ms. Allen is now working on submissions for the Fox 6/ America’s First Rising Star Pro-gram. Nominated students must have a minimum 3.5 and a record of extracurricular involvement. Fi-nalists have the potential to earn scholarship money. Interested students should submit a resume to Ms. Allen by mid-October.
*Juniors: Youth Leadership Shelby County applications must be returned to Ms. Allen by Wed.. Students who are selected must attend a mandatory leadership retreat Nov. 1 & 2.
*Are you interested in working with others to make Montevallo an even better community? Apply to join Students Institute! Applications to join Students Institute (a Community Improvement Program in which MES, MMS, and MHS work together on community improvement projects) are now available this week in Mrs. Pastor’s classroom or in the office. Space is limited, so hurry and apply! Applications must be completed and turned in to Mrs. Pastor by Friday, October 2nd to be considered for the program. First Workshop will be held on Friday, October 23, 2015

*Juniors and Seniors: A representative from the University of Montevallo will be on campus to-day during 7th period in the library. There is still time to sign up this morning.
*Juniors and Senior Female Students: A representative from Judson College will be on campus tomorrow during 7th period in the library. Interested students should sign up in the Guidance Office
*Attention Juniors: Youth Leadership Shelby County applications are due to Ms. Allen by this Wednesday. Let’s make sure that MHS has representation in this year’s YLSC class!
*Juniors and Seniors: A representative from Alabama State University will be on campus this Thursday during 7th period in the library. Interested students should sign up in the Guidance Of-fice
*Attention All Students: Peer Helpers will be hosting a suicide prevention awareness program this Friday during 7th period in the PAC; however, you must sign up in advance to attend. Sign-up sheets will be available in the Guidance Office as well as in some of your classrooms.
*Attention Big Brothers Big Sisters participants: Be sure that you have signed up for the RE-MIND text notices. See Ms. Allen if you did not get a text regarding last week’s trip to MES.
*Congratulations to the Marching Troubadours for earning an overall Superior rating at the Dixie Jubilee Jam Marching Festival this past Saturday at Weaver High School!

I have been a teacher at Montevallo Elementary for 10 years, a librarian at Creek View Elementary for 5 years and have been the librarian at Montevallo High School for several years now.
