MHS News 4/21/2016

*The library will be closed all day today.
*There will be a meeting today during 7th period in Mrs. Pastor’s room for all SGA and Leadership Group folks who meet with Mrs. Glover to go over the 8th Grade Shadowing Day next week. If you did not sign up due to a field trip or being gone that day, no need to attend.
*MHS will have an Alumni Basketball game on May 7 at 6pm in Susie Dement Gymnasium.
*There will be an indoor soccer tournament during 7th and 8th period next Wednesday, April 27th. Come see Coach Harvie to sign up and receive information. It will cost $4 to play and $2 to watch.
*Student / Faculty basketball game has been canceled due to lack of interest.
*Boys varsity and jv basketball tryouts will be April 25-26 3:15-5pm after school. Must have a up to date physical to tryout.
*Future Teachers – See Mrs. Cabrera for officer applications. Applications are due by April 29th
*Attention Junior Girls: MHS has yet to select a representative for Girls State due to lack of student response. However, there is still time and we really want our school represented at the University of Alabama this summer. Interested young ladies must see Ms. Allen today
*Attention Seniors: Application information for the Tom Chambers/Lhoist North America scholarship program is now available. The program awards a renewable $1000 scholarship for a senior planning to enroll in a two or four year ac-credited college or university who also shows financial need. Candidates must also show a commitment to the local community and involvement in extracurricular activities. Interested seniors should visit Ms. Allen’s blog for more in-formation or pick up a flyer outside the Guidance Office.
*Attention AP Students: There will be a mandatory AP Pre-Session tomorrow during 3rd period in the cafeteria. All AP students should be present!
*Seniors: Six Mile Baptist Church is offering a $500 scholarship to a deserving college-bound student. Essay on “Why I Need A Scholarship” due to Ms. Allen by 12:00 p.m. TODAY!
*Still need some service hours for the Give Me Five requirement? Even if the deadline has passed, you can still get yours in! Come to the Annual MHS Day of Service next Saturday April 30th from 8am – 12pm. If you work all four hours, you will complete your full Give Me Five requirement. There will be food, gift card drawings, and of course a variety of projects for you to engage in to help your school and community!
*National Art Honor Society members need to see Mrs. Whitson before the end of 4th period today.

I am a alumni of Montevallo High and the University of Montevallo. I have been a teacher at Montevallo Elementary for 10 years, a librarian at Creek View Elementary for 5 years and have been the librarian at Montevallo High School for several years now. It's exciting to be working at the same school I went to many years ago.
