MHS News 9/16/2016

Bulldogs will host Midfield tonight 7pm Adm $7 Come support the DAWGS!

**Please remember photo ID is required when checking students out!

The MHS Homecoming Dance will be held Oct. 1st from 7 to 11:30 in the school cafeteria. Adm. $10 at the door. DJ Banks and a snack buffet will be provided.

School picture orders are due by September 21st. Orders may be turned into Ms. Adams, room 115.

The girls soccer team will be having tryouts tomorrow at 1:00 PM. See Coach Cooley for more info.

The Destination Imagination meeting Wed. until 4:30. All those interested should plan to stay or see Mrs. Gothard or Mrs. Glover.

Attention Big Brothers Big Sisters: If you were not present for the mandatory meeting, a make-up will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 20. Please report to the PAC at 11:50. This means you will need to eat lunch during the junior wave.

The Montevallo Chess Club will be ordering t-shirts for $12. Come join the club and get a t-shirt! Meetings are held each Wednesday until 4 P.M. in Mrs. Hinton’s room.

Atttention Students: It is now time to sign up for the PSAT that will be administered on Oct. 19. For Juniors, the PSAT serves as the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Program. The test is only $15 and space is limited. See Ms. Allen to sign up.

Attention Students: Do you need ACT help? If so, Sycamore Learning will be offering an ACT workshop on Oct. 1 at the Shelby County Instructional Services Center in Alabaster. See Ms. Allen or check our her blog on how to register.

Attention Seniors: Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. is sponsoring an essay contest that will award scholarships ranging from $1000- $5000. Check out Ms. Allen’s blog for the essay prompt and contest rules. Entries should be submitted to Coach Pierson by Oct. 21.

Seniors: Your FAFSA can now be completed starting in October. To learn more about this and other updates to the financial aid process, please make plans to attend a Financial Information Session at UAB on Sept. 27 and Oct. 24 at 7:00 p.m. Visit Ms. Allen’s blog for more information. Don’t miss this!!

Seniors: The UM Fall College Fair for Seniors will be Monday, Oct. 3. This is a great opportunity to help narrow down your college options. Permission forms for the fair will be made available in your English classes and must be returned to Ms. Allen by Wed., Sept. 28.

*Students attending the Shelby County Student Leadership Conference will be meeting at 7:10AM tomorrow morning by the picnic tables to load the bus for the conference. Please dress casually and wear a Montevallo Shirt. Lunch is provided, and we will return by the end of the school day.

Reminder that any student interested in trying out for the girls soccer team must turn in both a consent form AND an updated physical. If you are currently involved in other sports and have a physical on file you do not need to complete another. If you need either of these forms, see Mr. Cooley.

*The Destination Imagination meeting will be next Wed. Sept. 21 until 4:30. All those interested should plan to stay or see Mrs. Gothard or Mrs. Glover.

*There will be a 10th grade Homecoming Committee Meeting TOMORROW during GPS in Mrs. Gothard’s room. All interested students should report to Mrs. Gothard’s room AFTER checking in with their GPS teachers.

Montevallo’s Spotlight is back online at mhsspotlight.com.  If you are not already receiving email updates, please go to the website and sign up for them.  You will see a section under the News Section titled Email Updates.  Put in your email address and follow the prompts.  You will then have to open your email and accept the first email from Spotlight. Please help us spread the word!

This event is meant to benefit all sophomores; however, any student who does not wish to attend should return the bottom portion of the field trip letter to Ms. Allen by12:00 Friday. Letters will be distributed in English class.
