MHS News 2/4/2022

Marching Troubadour Danceline and Colorguard are offering a free clinic on Tuesday & Thursday beginning this afternoon at MHS 3:30 – 4:30 in the cafeteria. 2/3, 2/8, 2/10
There will be an auxiliary parent interest meeting Feb 8 @ 5 pm in the school cafeteria.

If you are trying out or considering trying-out for the high school danceline, colorguard, or majorettes., You MUST see Mrs. Gothard for information regarding physicals this week.

The Montevallo Day of Pageants will be held Saturday, Feb. 26th. Deadline for entry forms and payments has been extended until 3 pm TODAY

Beginning Tuesday, February 8th, we will be hosting an after school credit recovery session from 3:15 to 5:15. This will take place each Tuesday. Students should meet immediately after school in the front lobby. These sessions are for students who have failed a core subject class in the first semester or who still have credits to recover from last school year. If you have any questions about whether your student is in need of attending, please contact Mr. Reed, jreed@shelbyed.org, or Mrs. Walker, l3walker@shelbyed.org.

Congratulations to Aubrey Strickland for having her artwork chosen to represent Shelby County in the State Superintendent’s Visual Arts Exhibit!

Students parking on Plowman St. in front of church across from gym: Please be aware that complaints to the city have been made due to parking in residential areas, yellow curbs or parking against the flow of traffic. Beginning today parking in these areas could result in receiving a violation / towing of your vehicle. We currently have a few spaces available on campus if you wish to purchase a parking permit. Please see the main office if you wish to purchase.

The Shelby County College Fair scheduled for February 2nd at the University of Montevallo has been canceled. It may possibly be rescheduled at a later date in the spring.

REMINDER: MHS has a new check in/check out program in place. The QR op-
tion is no longer be available. All students checking in will do so with the main of-
fice. ALL persons checking a student out must present a photo ID and also be listed on the student check out card. Any changes of adding or removing names from the check out card must be done in person by the parent or legal guardian. NO Exceptions!!

MHS new guidelines regarding student check-ins. Students who report to school after
8:15 a.m. will only be allowed to check themselves in 3 times. Upon the 3rd late arrival,
a conference will be held with the parent to discuss tardiness, Early Warning Court, and
other consequences. Furthermore, students will not be allowed subsequent opportunities
to check themselves in. They will have to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

All Scholar’s Bowl team members should report to Mr. Martin’s room Wed. for practice from 3-5.


If you would like the star with your name, please take it by Friday! Only take the one with your name!

If you are interested in being a part of the coding club. Please sign up in the cafeteria during lunch. See Mrs. Cabrera for more information.

2021 Yearbooks have finally arrived. If you purchased a yearbook, you may pick yours up from Mrs. Fricke, room 203. If you have not purchased one yet, and would like one. yearbooks are $50. 2022 Yearbooks will be delivered in May, and you may pre-order yours now. For those who graduated and ordered, you can pick it up this Friday, 1/14 between 12:30-1 in the school lobby, or they can email Mrs. Fricke to schedule a time to pick it up. mfricke@shelbyed.org

Applications must be received by 5 PM December 17. For more info or questions call Anderson Eyecare at 205-665-2020. Food, lodging and conference are covered by the Montevallo Rotary club.

Semester Exams this week. Students will not be called out during an exam period. You
can not check out at 9:20 then check back in for the 2nd test. Once checked out, you must leave campus. You can not return to ride the bus home. If you did not turn in a precheck-out form on time, regular checkout procedures will be required.

ized window ornament.

The Montevallo Rotary Club is accepting applications from MHS sophomores and juniors to attend the Rotary Leadership Conference at the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville Alabama February 8-10. Book talk in the morning at 7:30 am in the library. Come, discuss your favorite or current

please see Mrs. Walker for an application. All applications are due by Friday, December 10th. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Applications must be completed
in blue or black ink with authentic signatures.

SGA will meet after school tomorrow in Mrs. O’Connor’s room rather than today to get
materials ready for the service project at the Boys & Girls Club.

All chromebooks will be renewed Tuesday and Wednesday with your History teacher.
Make sure you have your chromebook at school those days so that you will not be charged
a late fee.

Students have been given copies of the Semester Exam Schedule along with pre-check out
forms. These forms must be signed by a parent and returned no later than Wed. Dec. 8.
No forms will be accepted after this date. Please place completed forms in the box at the
office window.

Do you like adventures in reading? Come to the library Tuesday, December 7th at 7:30 am and let’s talk books! You might be enticed to read someone’s suggestion and you might talk someone into reading your favorite! Come share and get ideas for your next reading venture.

The MHS Cheer team will be competing at the state cheerleading competition on Monday December 6th. If you are interested in going on the spirit bus to attend this event you must purchase the $10 ticket on GoFan, turn in your $5 for the spirit bus, and turn in a signed permission slip to Ms. Meadows by Friday. Stop by her room between classes with any questions. Masks are required for this event.
