Students worked learning the process for long division with remainders today in class. Have your student show you the process…….when you run out of numbers in the dividend and still have a remainder, add a decimal and then add a zero! It doesn’t change the value of the dividend AND it gives you the ability to keep on dividing!

Mrs. Horton’s rule is this: If you still have a remainder, you can add up to three zeros after the decimal to try and resolve the problem. After adding three zeroes and you STILL have a remainder, you are okay to walk away from the problem!

Dividing Whole #s with remainders HW for 9-4-2014

Tuesday, September 2nd

Long Division! Students began learning the procedures for traditional long division today in class. While some students know alternate methods for dividing, I believe most students like what they learned today and took to it fairly easily! On our homework sheet, we worked #1-5 together step-by-step to ensure accuracy. Many students were able to finish up their homework before leaving school today!
