Week of October 31-November 4

We are finally wrapping up our unit on decimals this week!!! During class on Friday, I talked with my students about our impending test on multiplying and dividing decimals. I told everyone that I wanted them to be as prepared as possible for the test so I bumped the test to this week. That means for the first part of this week, we will have an intense review of multiplying and dividing decimals! Our test is scheduled for Thursday, November 3rd. Once that is behind us, our class will begin focusing on divisiblilty rules and prime & composite numbers.

Hope your favorite college team wins this week!!!

Change to Homework for Thursday, October 27th

We will not be taking a quiz on dividing decimals this Friday. As we have been working this week, I feel as though we need a few more days to master this concept before we take a test. As a result, we will not have a study guide for homework. Instead, we will continue to work on dividing decimals by completing Practice B, pg. 76, #1-12 only.

Our students are really working hard to understand this concept!!

Keep working!!

Don’t stop……..don’t give up!!

Week of October 24 – 28

Our focus this week will be on division of decimals. We will begin the week by dividing decimals by whole numbers and progress on to dividing decimals by decimals. Our students are working hard to ensure that they ask questions during class to clarify their understanding. Students are also making sure they are turning in homework assignments promptly when they return from an absence!

HOMEWORK FOR OCTOBER 24-28
Monday, October 24th……………..Lesson 4-5, pg 27 #1-18 only
Tuesday, October 25th…………….Lesson 3-8, pg. 22 #1-12

Enjoy your weekend!!!!

Change to HOMEWORK Schedule for Tuesday, October 18th

Good Tuesday morning!!

I am making a change to our homework schedule for Tuesday, October 18th. Our Drug Awareness presenter needed to come to our class a day earlier than expected. For this reason, I have advised my students that we will NOT complete the homework assignment that is listed on my blog for Tuesday night, October 18th. There is NO HOMEWORK FOR TUESDAY NIGHT, OCTOBER 18th.

The change to Tuesday’s night homework will also effect the homework assignment for Wednesday night, October 19th.

The homework assignment for Tuesday night, October 18th should be completed as homework for Wednesday night, October 19th.

I have instructed students in class as to the change in our homework schedule for Tuesday, October 18th.

The week will conclude with a review of adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing decimals as we look forward to a test next week.

Weekend of October 1 & 2

Can you believe the end of the first nine weeks is already here? As I posted earlier this week, next week is “Exam Week” on the Green Team at HMS. In an effort to give my students plenty of time to prepare for this exam, I went ahead and gave students their comprehensive study guides on Friday, Sept 30th. I told students to work on the study guide a section or two at a time so they could work through each set of problems and make sure they understand the skill each section covers. I do not want anyone rushing through the study guide! (Study guide will be due on Wednesday, October 5th………Math nine weeks exam on Friday, October 7th).

We are continuing to work in our unit on decimals. Friday we discussed how to verbally pronouce what our eyes see on paper. We also explored how to write decimals in standard form, expanded form, and written form. This is not as simple as it seems for many students. I did give students homework practicing their skills on this topic and I will take it for a grade on Monday. It could be that we have a very short homework assignment on decimals on Monday & Tuesday evening. Once again, I tell my students I will never send them into a big test without lots of “practice” just as a football coach would never send his players into a big game without lots of practice either!

Enjoy the wonderful weather this weekend!!
