Week of March 26 – March 30

What a wonderful Spring Break!! I hope students and parents alike were able to rest and soak up some sun!

As I shared with my students today in class, we have exactly 9 class meetings until ARMT+ testing begins on April 9th! In an effort to ready our students to their prime performance, 6th grade started an “ARMT+ Blitz” today in which we will review skills from August to present day. That will take up a solid 20 minutes of our time together each day and the other 30 minutes will be new skills. Still pushing ahead & encouraging students to push themselves as well to perform at their maximum potential!

Parents, please make every effort to have students in class each day over the next 2 weeks! We will cover many new skills and students sometimes have a hard time playing “catch up”. It is also very important that students are at school each day during testing to ensure that their skills are properly reflected on our state assessment.

HOMEWORK FOR MARCH 26 – MARCH 30
Monday, March 26th………no school; teacher workday
Tuesday, March 27th……..Ratios & Proportions worksheet (front & back)
Wednesday, March 28th……page 4 of ARMT packet (and any other pages not completed in class)
Thursday, March 29th…….Lesson 10-1 Workbook pg.83, all problems
Friday, March 30th………no homework

Enjoy your weekend (and don’t get fooled on April 1st!!!!!)

Enjoy your Spring Break!!!

All our students at HMS have worked so hard since January and a well deserved break is in order for everyone!

As we come back to school on Tuesday, March 27th, any supplies you would like to bring with you would be greatly appreciated! Pencils are the #1 item we need in math with paper towels being a close second!

Hope your Spring Break is restful and full of fun!

Wednesday, March 14th

The Wonderful World of Proportions has scaled to new heights!
Our skills with proportions took on a new dimension today as we used them to solve word problems! Students learned to set their proportions up in a consistent manner (“spoons to spoons” and “forks to forks”) so their calculations would produce a correct answer. Take a look at your student’s homework tonight and help ensure they set their proportions up correctly! You never know what may just “pop” up tomorrow during class!

HOMEWORK FOR WEDNESDAY, MARCH 14TH
Proportion Word Problem (Math 6) worksheet…….all problems
***Remember to write a “word ratio”, show all your work, and label your answer!!!!

Tuesday night, March 13th

Students were fully engaged during our math class today as we practiced how to answer open-ended word problems. No multiple choice answers were given. Students had to be creative in answering the problem which consisted of 3 parts. Great practice for our state testing coming in April!

HOMEWORK FOR TUESDAY, MARCH 13th
none!!!!!

Enjoy the beautiful weather this afternoon!!!

SCHOOL PICTURES WILL BE MADE TOMORROW, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 14TH

Monday, March 12th

Our week will begin with students extending their learning about ratios by creating and comparing proportions. Students remember: proportions are equations that show two equivalent ratios. Coupled with our learning about proportions, students will learn how to find a number that may be missing from one of the ratios in the proportion (otherwise known as “isolating the variable”).

HOMEWORK FOR MONDAY, MARCH 12TH
Lesson 8-2, Practice A (top half) and Practice B (bottom half)
** Remember: set the problem up by cross multiplying first !!!!

SPRING PICTURES will be made this Wednesday, March 14th!

Week of March 5-9

Our unit of study will focus on Ratios, Proportions, & Unit Rates for the remainder of this week. Students learned how to write ratios & equivalent ratios today during class. Students also learned the method for calculating unit rates when comparing two different amounts (Remember: you have to compare rates based on the SAME UNIT!!)

HOMEWORK SCHEDULE FOR MARCH 5-9
Monday, March 5th………….Simple Interest worksheet all problems
Tuesday, March 6th…………Test Corrections; due in my basket on Wednesday!!!!
Wednesday, March 7th……….Lesson 8-1, Practice B all problems
Thursday, March 8th………..Unit Rate worksheet #5-10
Friday, March 9th………….no homeowork

Hope your weekend is wonderful!!!!!
